Alternate Row Grouping Size

Post by cjbarth »

When I turn on alternate row coloring, it colors every other row, which makes sense. However, looking at all those alternating rows can present a challenge on a large monitor; even tracing your eye across one can skip up or down. It would be nice if there were a little input box next to that option that would allow me to also specify the size of the groups of alternate rows.

For example, a group of 4 light-4 dark is actually very easy to follow across a screen. You eye doesn't tend to skip because the height of the colored bands is reasonably large, but our brains are actually really good at picking out top, 1-from-top, 1-from-bottom, and bottom within a colored band, so nothing is lost when it comes to quickly identifying a row. Others share a similar opinion on groups of colored rows. To be clear, I'm not talking about adding another color, just adding more rows to the group before changing to the other color. See https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions ... row-colors

I've already turned on the option to have the row under my mouse be highlighted, which helps, but that requires that I move my mouse around. Clearly this isn't a deal-breaker life-changing feature, but it would be nice.

Everything will likely only ever support alternate row colors.

Thank you for the suggestion.
