Hello all,
is there a best practice to see the contents of the AppData folder -- but exclude all other hidden files and folders elsewhere?
Cheers David.P
See the contents of the AppData folder
Re: Everything shows no results for %appdata%
You can leave 'Exclude hidden files and folders', set,
& then add %appdata% as a Folder Index.
& then add %appdata% as a Folder Index.
Re: Everything shows no results for %appdata%
Thanks! However, is that not a somewhat "dirty" hack? Won't that circumvent Master File Table indexing -- by me adding a folder that is to be indexed separately?
Re: Everything shows no results for %appdata%
While it does warn, I don't think so, because it is actually excluded because you've set,
'Exclude hidden files and folders'
so by adding it back in using a Folder Index, you end up only adding that single folder (tree),
which wasn't in there to begin with.

Re: Everything shows no results for %appdata%
Sorry, I don't understand what you just said.
Re: See the contents of the AppData folder
Moved from Everything shows no results for %appdata%
The HIDDEN attribute is ignored for folders added under Tools -> Options -> Folders.
However, subfolders with HIDDEN attributes will still be excluded.
Your best option is to NOT exclude HIDDEN files/folders and just exclude the specific unwanted folders.
Yes, it will be slower to index and will require daily rescans to keep up-to-date.Thanks! However, is that not a somewhat "dirty" hack? Won't that circumvent Master File Table indexing -- by me adding a folder that is to be indexed separately?

Re: See the contents of the AppData folder
Okay thanks, I will do that then and hope that not too much hidden files junk will get in my way. If it does, I can still use therube's approach andvoid wrote: Thu May 28, 2026 1:53 am Your best option is to NOT exclude HIDDEN files/folders and just exclude the specific unwanted folders.
