See the contents of the AppData folder

Post by David.P »

Hello all,

is there a best practice to see the contents of the AppData folder -- but exclude all other hidden files and folders elsewhere?

You can leave 'Exclude hidden files and folders', set,
& then add %appdata% as a Folder Index.

Thanks! However, is that not a somewhat "dirty" hack? Won't that circumvent Master File Table indexing -- by me adding a folder that is to be indexed separately?

While it does warn, I don't think so, because it is actually excluded because you've set,
'Exclude hidden files and folders'
so by adding it back in using a Folder Index, you end up only adding that single folder (tree),
which wasn't in there to begin with.

Yes, it will be slower to index and will require daily rescans to keep up-to-date.

The HIDDEN attribute is ignored for folders added under Tools -> Options -> Folders.
However, subfolders with HIDDEN attributes will still be excluded.

Your best option is to NOT exclude HIDDEN files/folders and just exclude the specific unwanted folders.

Okay thanks, I will do that then and hope that not too much hidden files junk will get in my way. If it does, I can still use therube's approach and
