sorry, misunderstanding.

Only keyboard shortcuts, if possible.
If one have to type something, that's not i am looking for.
In the moment it's perfect for me, my question above would only skip some keyboard entries.

Thanks alot for your help and best regards

Use the bookmark keyboard shortcut.
You don't have to type anything.

In Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks, do you have a "Search Name in New Tab" bookmark?

Yes, all ok, is running fine, thanks a lot!

So, my next project will be my ebooks.

But one question in advance:
Have now 2 Icons on my desktop, one is for my mp3-collection, the other one is for my videos.
Both applications are running completely parallel.

Would it make sense to change between Music and Video in between Everything, but do not know, whether this is possible. This would save one instance.
What would you propose?

If you say, keep it different, then I would like to ask you, to give me a script in order to start with a third instance for my ebooks (same as you did for my Videos).

Thanks a lot in advance for your help and best regards

I think you are asking if you can switch instances from within Everything?
-There's no option to do this currently.
An Everything instance is unaware of other instances.

What would you propose?
Create a third instance.
Consider using different icons and colors for each instance.

Everything Icon Pack
Themes

If you say, keep it different, then I would like to ask you, to give me a script in order to start with a third instance for my ebooks (same as you did for my Videos).
To create the eBooks instance:
From the Desktop, right click and click New -> Shortcut...
Set location of the item to:

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance eBooks -no-auto-index
Click Next.
Set the name for this shortcut to:
Everything - eBooks

Click Finish.

Launch your shortcut.
Make sure Everything (eBooks) is shown in the window title bar.

Fine, have my ebooks in Everything.
There are 3 instaces now:
Music
Video
Ebook
Gave the icons on the desktop different colours.
But when in minimize them to the taskbar, the original colours are shown there.
How to change that?

Thanks in advance for your help best regards

To change the icons in Everything (and the taskbar):
Copy your custom icon files to:

Code: Select all

%APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Music.ico
%APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Video.ico
%APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Ebook.ico
(eg: the Ebook instance will use %APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Ebook.ico )
Restart each instance of Everything. (File -> Exit)

hhmm, not running.

I started with this instance, the desktop icon is in green
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance video -no-auto-index

Copied the ico-file to %APPDATA%\Everything\Everything-Video.ico.
But, when i open it, in the taskbat is it original red.
and i am surpised the ico file is an executable file, which opens Everythig, might be i made soemething wrong before......

One other point is: Opening the Video instance, the column "Dimensions" is there, but nothing is in the lines, which were formerly properly displayed.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help an d best regards

Icon files should not be executable.
I'm guessing you have file extensions hidden and you're renaming an .exe file to .ico.exe ?

Please try the following search in Everything:

%APPDATA%\Everything\

What is shown?
If there's any .ico.exe files, rename them in Everything to .ico

You will need to restart Everything after copying your Everything-<instance-name>.ico
In Everything, from the File menu, click Exit.
Relaunch Everything.

Opening the Video instance, the column "Dimensions" is there, but nothing is in the lines, which were formerly properly displayed.
Is this still an issue?

No, there are no extensions hidden.
But I deleted the file and copied one of your zip file icons into the roaming folder, this one (in green):
"Everything-Video.ico" ... and the file is no longer an executable file

On the desktop icon, which is green, I have the following target:
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance video -no-auto-index

And the start in is as follows: "C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a"

But opening Everything: the taskbar icon is in original red.
hmm, what to do.
Thanks a lot for your help and best regards

P.S: all other open points are settled

Please see:
Is it possible to chage the tray icon

You could place the “Video” instance in a separate folder, such as C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Video,
to separate the Everything “named instance” from the Everything “unnamed instance”.

C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Video\Everything-video.ico
would cause a different Everything icon to be displayed for the “Video” instance.

Simply drag the “Everything-video.ico” file into the C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Video folder
and confirm the UAC prompt.

Then create a new shortcut target for the “Video” instance and launch this Everything instance:
“C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Video\Everything.exe” -instance video -no-auto-index

@tuska, that's running. Have all icons in tasbar now in green, that's fine.
In order to avoid some work: which files should i copy in that new folder, or do i have to make the indexing procedure and all others once again?

So, have deleted the new folder Video, and Musik and Video is again fine for me (except the taskbar coloumns)

For my Ebooks I do not understand, i see now always the folders but want to have as search results only *.epub and *.pdf files
Under Tools / Options / Exlude i have defined the above mentioned include only files, but in the view ebooks, the result is zero.
And in view Everything, then are the folders included, which I do not want to see here.

So, first to have this clarified, then (perhaps) again colours in taskbar.

Thansk a lot for your help and best regards

And in view Everything, then are the folders included, which I do not want to see here.
You will still need to index folders, just hide them from your results:
  • In Everything - Ebooks, from the Search menu, click Add to filters....
  • Change the Name to:
    Ebooks
  • Change the Search to:
    ext:epub;pdf
  • Click
    OK
    .
  • From the Search menu, activate your Ebooks filter.

In Everything, for the main search window, do you see your custom icon ?

To change the Everything Taskbar icon:
  • Right click the Everything taskbar button.
  • Right click Everything.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click Change Icon.
  • Click Browse..., select a new icon and click Open.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.
edit:
Unpin Everything from the Taskbar.
Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
Relaunch Everything.
Re-pin Everything.

At the bottom is the taskbar, but color unchanged, on top you see the pull down menu with the proper color.

hhmm, can we do something elses?

Please try rebuilding your icon cache:
  • From the Start menu, search for:
    cmd
  • Click Command Prompt.
  • In the command prompt, navigate to local app data folder by typing in the following and pressing enter:

    Code: Select all

    cd %localappdata%

  • Remove the hidden attribute from the icon cache database by typing the following and pressing enter:

    Code: Select all

    attrib iconcache.db -h

  • Delete the icon cache database by typing the following and pressing enter:

    Code: Select all

    del iconcache.db

  • Terminate Windows Explorer by typing the following and pressing enter:

    Code: Select all

    taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

  • Restart Windows Explorer by typing the following and pressing enter:

    Code: Select all

Are you pinning Everything to the taskbar?

Unpin Everything from the Taskbar.
Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
Relaunch Everything.
Re-pin Everything.

-If you're not pinning Everything, please try:
Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
Relaunch Everything.

Everything is not pinned.

Also the file -> exit does not help.

The idea above by @tuska brought me the correct colors, but unfortunately it spoiled my instances, do not know, why.

hhmm, something else, which can be done?
Or do i have to keep it as it is.

What's the current situation?
Is the custom icon shown in the main Everything search window?
When you right click Everything in the taskbar, what is shown?

What version of Windows are you running?

Maybe this picture will help?

Please note:
- user == your username

- Everything was started as user and NOT as administrator (with "Everything Service" afterwords checked).

- Everything was also run as an administrator, and in Everything Options - 1.5.0.1409 (x64) - [Administrator]
the “Desktop shortcut” option was checked, and the icon on the desktop was changed to “Everything-Video.ico”
(as shown in the image below).
In this case, you also had to click the “Advanced” (= "Erweitert...") button in the icon's properties
and then check the “Run as administrator” option (since this did not happen automatically).

2026-05-31_ICON for instance e.g. Video.png

Please pin the icons from the desktop to the taskbar:
- Right-click the Everything icon
- Click the “Show more options” menu item
- Click the “Pin to taskbar” menu item
German (Deutsch):
- Tätige einen Rechtsklick auf das Everything Icon
- Klicke auf den Menüpunkt "Weitere Optionen anzeigen"
- Klicke auf den Menüpunkt "An Taskleiste anheften"

If that doesn't help...

Could you please update to the latest available Everything 1.5 alpha version
and check if the problem still persists?

Please answer this question from the author.

Type the following search term into the search box on the taskbar: Windows-Info
Then click on the right side of this window on: "Windows-Info   Systemeinstellungen".

Example:

Code: Select all

Edition ...........: Windows 11 Pro
Version ...........: 25H2
Betriebssystembuild: 26200.8524
Website, e.g. .....: https://aka.ms/Windows/ReleaseInfo
Have a great vacation.

Windows Info:
Edition Windows 11 IoT Enterprise
Version 26H1
Installiert am ‎23.‎03.‎2026
Betriebssystembuild 28000.2179

Following your instructions, "Please pin the icons from the desktop to the taskbar":
Have the icons in the tassbar now, und yes, they have the right color.

But if I click on them, a new tasbar icon is opened in red (and the tray bar icons are in red as well)
So, if I open all three instances, I have three red icons in the taskbar and three red icons in the tray bar as well (and on top 3 icons in the taskbar with the correct colors, which opens always a new taskbar icon colored in red).
In my opinion, that's not the solution.....

Help is welcome!

Have this version installed: Version 1.5.0.1404a (x64)
If i understand it correct, the last beta version will lead to a complete new installation and i have to copy various files from the alpha version to the beta version.
Will try after my holidays, but reading the fixed issues, i have the feeling, this will not help.

The latest Everything 1.5 Alpha version is: Everything-1.5.0.1409a - 30.4.2026
The first   Everything 1.5 Beta   version is: Everything-1.5.0.1410b - 14.5.2026

Based on what you've described, I suspect your problem is related to the version of Windows you're using.
But maybe the problem will be fixed in one of the next version of Windows.

As for an update, I would now recommend upgrading to the latest Everything Beta version.
The author lists the migration steps in this post: Everything 1.5b Beta - Upgrade Guide.

So, back from my holidays.
And fresh for new attempts, to get rid of the "Adminstrator"

The shortcuts are now completey without adminstrator rights.

We have had this point already a few weeks ago, but I was unable to uncheck Administartor rights under options in Everything.
This remains unchanged:
For each instance (Musik, Video and Ebooks):

In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the General tab on the left.
Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
Uncheck Run as administrator.
Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
Click OK.
Exit Everything (from the File menu, click Exit).
Restart Everything.
Run as Adminstrator is square checked. If I uncheck it and click on apply, there is a message "Exit Everything"
If I say yes, Everything is closed completely, but if I restart Administartor is again square checked.

For Info: I am using still this version: Version 1.5.0.1404a (x64)

hhmm, what to do?

Need a long time to fix the elevated for the explorer. Had to make one registry entry, and now the explorer is not running any longer as elevated.
Also Everything is not any longer running with with Admin rights.

Would you give please again the instruction how to change the colors in the taskbar?

Have my three colors for ebooks & videos and musik in the taskbar as follows (also traybar with the fine colors):

2026-06-18 16_57_33-.png
[/url]

In general, that's much, much more than i have expected, when starting this thread.
Also my "problem" to open music CD's with CD 1 & CD2 in subfolders is settled via new entries in the pulldown menu.
Then: via AutoHotKey i have a script now, which opens the next video or music file with a shortcut following the sorting in Everything, which can remain in the background, which is a great feature for me.

One point, just cosmetical, i would like to be changed:
See above picture, i have:
Ebook - Everything / Everything (video) / Musik - Everything.
How to change "Everything (video)" to "Video - Everything"?

(for info: for Ebooks i have used the following instance:
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance eBooks -no-auto-index
and for Videos this one:
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance video -no-auto-index)

Would be fine to get in the taskbar "Video - Everything", when opening the video instance.

Thanks a lot in advance for help and best regards

Please try activating the Video filter:
In the Everything (video) instance, from the Search menu, check Video.

I assume you have an eBook filter and a Musik filter in the other instances.

In all three instances it's the same:
In Musik the filter Musik is checked.
In Ebook the filter Ebook is checked.
...and in Video the filter Video is checked.

There must be a different reason.

Any other Idea?

Right-click the icon to edit the shortcut (.lnk file) on the desktop > Properties > Target:
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance "Video" -no-auto-index -filter video
Click the “Apply” button, then click “OK.”

Then launch Everything by double-clicking the shortcut on the desktop.
The “Video” filter will turn on automatically!

For example, this is what appears in my taskbar afterward.

My video instance is the following:
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance video -no-auto-index

If I change it to as suggested:
C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance "Video" -no-auto-index -filter video
it's not possible, because the file is not known.

I have exactly this instance for Musik:
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance eBooks -no-auto-index
And here are no "problems", it appears in the taskbar as "Ebook - Everything"

Therefore there must be a different reason, why i am getting in the taskbar for videos "Everything (video)"

Hopefully void can help.

Mmh,
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance video -no-auto-index -filter video

... works here (also).

Perhaps the code below could be modified so that the Everything instance name is displayed first.

Options > Advanced > taskbar_notification_title_format > Value for taskbar_notification_title_format:
$s?{$s - }$f?{$f - }$t$i?{ ($i)} $v <if:isadmin:,"- [Administrator] "><if:isdbreadonly:,"- [.db Read-only]">

Finally, just this example from me: Video - Everything 1.5.0.1409a (x64)
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe" -instance Video -no-auto-index -filter video

Options > Advanced > taskbar_notification_title_format > Value for taskbar_notification_title_format:
$s?{$s - }$f?{$f - }$i - $t $v [if:isadmin:,"[Administrator]"]

Options > Advanced > window_title_format > Value for window_title_format:
$s?{$s - }$f?{$f - }$i - $t $v [if:isadmin:,"[Administrator]"]

Options > Advanced > dialog_title_format > Value for dialog_title_format:
$s?{$s - }$f?{$f - }$i - $t $v [if:isadmin:,"[Administrator]"]

Code: Select all

$s = Search.
$a = Active filter.
$d = Active directory.
$f = Filelist filename.
$t = Title.
$i = Instance.
$v = Version.
$s?{$s - } = Show text inside { } if $s is not empty.

For example:
$s?{$s - }$f?{$f - }$t$i{ ($i)} $v [if:isadmin:,"[Administrator]"]

tuska is on the right path.

I assume you want folders and all video types for your video instance.
The video filter will only show some video files.

In your Video instance:
  • From the Search menu, change the filter to Everything.
  • From the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Advanced tab on the left.
  • To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
    title
  • Select: window_title_format
  • Set the value to:

    Code: Select all

    $s?{$s - }$d?{$d - }$f?{$f - }Video - $t$i?{ ($i)}
  • Click OK.
