I have just updated to the latest version of Everything, and I am facing a major issue. After the installation completed, all my previous settings, custom window layouts, specific font choices, and an extensive search history of important commands have completely disappeared. The application currently displays the default clean interface. It seems the installer did not migrate my old user data folder or configuration profile.Could you please guide me on how to locate my old configuration files (Everything.ini and Search History.csv) and safely force the new version to read them so I can restore my custom layout, fonts, and full command history?Thank you for your assistance.Any existing Everything 1.5a installation is unaffected by the Everything 1.5b installation.

LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
Re: LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
Everything 1.5b will load your Everything 1.4 settings over your Everything 1.5a settings.
Everything 1.5b - Installation Recommendations
Everything is likely loading your Everything 1.4 settings.
Please try the following:

Please try the following:
- Terminate Everything.
- Move the following files in %APPDATA%\Everything or the same location as your Everything.exe to a separate directory:
- Bookmarks.csv
- Everything.ini
- Run History.csv
- Filters.csv
- Move the following files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Everything or the same location as your Everything.exe to a separate directory:
- Everything.db
- Restart Everything 1.5b.
Re: LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
I have mixed installations on different drives, and I can't tell which is which. Some are in Program Files, some in AppData, and others are on other drives.
I think I have three different installations in the system or more.
OR, Anyway, I don't need a new version!

I don't have such files, they are different and very old(2024 YEAR!), not the latest ones.
I UNNECESSARILY UPDATED TO THE LATEST VERSION 1.5 TO 1.5 AND NOW EVERYTHING IS LOST. SO WASN'T A SERIOUS UPDATE JUST OVERWRITING OLD FILES?
Re: LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
Might be less confusing (?) if you were to use the .zip version & forgo "installation" altogether?I have mixed installations on different drives, and I can't tell which is which. Some are in Program Files, some in AppData, and others are on other drives.
I think I have three different installations in the system or more.
Do a search for
Everything ext:iniSee where it turns up.
Backup up everything from those various locations.
I would expect (?) that somewhere in there is your original data?
If you're able to come up with that, then it should just be a matter of getting it - in a manner expected, for a particular Everything "installation".

Well, as a start, backup everything from within all of those directories.
Re: LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
Sorry about the I upgrade issues Debugger,
Your 1.5a settings will still be there, nothing is deleted.
I suspect the issue is caused by having an old Everything 1.4 ini.
What is the location of your Everything.exe that you are launching?
Please try the following:

During installation, the default path is E:\Everything, and I choose install as Administrator, not Service.
Re: LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
In the installer, did you choose %APPDATA%\Everything or installation folder for settings and data location?
Was Everything 1.5a installed to E:\Everything ?

Re: LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
I have no idea, I have multiple locations, and I don't know why.
Program Files, App data, and other non-system drives.
Currently, I have the version:
"C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe"
And where should I back up everything:
Settings + advanced settings + full search history, thousands of entries?

Backup Everything 1.5a settings and data
Backup Everything 1.4/1.5b settings and data
If Everything is still not loading the correct settings, please try manually importing your 1.5a settings:

Re: LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
Too many(!!) complicated operations mean I'll never, ever update this thing.
viewtopic.php?t=17663#backup
I'll stick with version 1.5.0.1405a (x64) forever and ever
unless someone simplifies this updater into a single installation process.

Re: LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
Good news: Void included an import installation option for 1.5a settings in the last release.
Give it a try, it worked well for me.

No, no, it doesn't say clearly version "b" and I have a different version "a" you forgot the version!runmode wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 11:38 am Good news: Void included an import installation option for 1.5a settings in the last release.

Re: LOST DATA (NEW Update beta)
Why install a new version that doesn't actually add anything significant?
If something worked before, why the hell do you need something newer?
You don't buy new shoes or a phone after a month of wearing them. Unless you have a "novelty" obsession.

It looks like you did not even read the history of changes or understand software life cycle at all.
In your word you should use Everything older than 1.4
and of course under Window 3.11

You're not telling the truth, of course I read it and I didn't see anything there that would improve or enhance the operation of Everything!horst.epp wrote: Wed May 27, 2026 3:40 pmThat's strangeDebugger wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 12:41 pm Why install a new version that doesn't actually add anything significant?
