Re: Omit Results
Wondering if there's a +/- macro for Omit Results?
Re: Omit Results
There's no command to toggle Omit Result.
There is a command to Omit a result.
To bind a keyboard shortcut to omit a result:

Re: Omit Results
That's useful, didn't know about that one.
But I was talking about something like omit: or !omit: to be able to make filters for when I need to search everything including or exluding omissions depending on the default state of result omissions.

Re: Omit Results
Can you consider an 'Omitted results' panel just like there's one for filters and bookmarks? For one-click toggling.
Re: Omit Results
Hello,
I have some suggestions for this already long thread
Could the omit functionality be enabled by default ?
Works great, but I missed it the first time I needed it because I couldn't find it in the context menu and assumed there wasn't one.
(here are the other suggestions, but just)
I would also suggest making the context menu option for omit and omit temporary be themselves subcontextmenu
[omit] (clickable, omits this file)
+--->[omit folder and subfolders]
+--->[omit extension]
+--->[omit folder containing folder only]
+--->[omit file custom] (dialog appear, prefilled with omit entry of current file)
+--->[omit folder custom] (dialog appear, prefilled with omit entry of current folder)
I would suggest the same context submenu for [omit temporary]
I would suggest showing somewhere near the top left that a omission list is active (show active omission count (number of results currently omitted))
I think it should be easy to see and edit the list of "temporary omissions", to save the temporary omission list as a permanent omission list, and the ability to name permanent omission lists and toggle them on or off easily
Establish a keyboard shortcut for "omit file" and "omit folder"
thanks !

Re: Omit Results
I will consider a Result Omission pane. Can you consider an 'Omitted results' panel just like there's one for filters and bookmarks? For one-click toggling.
Thank you for the suggestion.
No, it adds to much bloat to the right click context menu.Could the omit functionality be enabled by default ?
Everything will remember your Enable Result Omissions setting.
You'll only need to enable it once.
I will consider an Omit sub context menu.I would also suggest making the context menu option for omit and omit temporary be themselves subcontextmenu
For now, if you find the context menu too bloated, please try showing omit and temp omit only on Shift right click:
- In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Context Menu tab on the left.
- Select Omit.
- Check Show this item when the Shift key is down.
- Select Temporarily Omit.
- Check Show this item when the Shift key is down.
- Click OK.
I would like to show the total number of omitted results in the status bar.I would suggest showing somewhere near the top left that a omission list is active (show active omission count (number of results currently omitted))
But, I haven't found a feasible way to do this yet..
For now OMIT and TEMP OMIT is shown in the status bar on the right.
I will consider support for viewing the temporary omission list and the option to make the permanent.I think it should be easy to see and edit the list of "temporary omissions", to save the temporary omission list as a permanent omission list
I will consider support for omissions list presets.and the ability to name permanent omission lists and toggle them on or off easily
To set a keyboard shortcut to omit a result:Establish a keyboard shortcut for "omit file" and "omit folder"
- In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Keyboard tab on the left.
- To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
omit - Select: File | Omit
- Click Add....
- Press a new keyboard shortcut (for example: Backspace) and click OK.
- Click OK.
Re: Omit Results
Excuse me, but if I apply these steps nothing changes to the context menu, actually, it gets even more bloated because along with those two it adds all the hidden context menu entries from all the softwares in my PC. Many do use Shift+right click for an alternative view of the context menu.void wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 4:54 am I will consider an Omit sub context menu.

How can I make it less bloated? Or did I get it wrong?
Btw I'd like to suggest something to improve the visibility of Omitted and Temporarily Omitted results when these options are disabled.
Allowing custom text color for omitted/temporarily omitted results.
This way even if I see something in the results, I'd know instantly that result would have been an omitted/temporarily omitted one.
Thank you for this amazing software!
Re: Omit Results
Thank you for your feedback damasd,
For each item, choose from one of the following options:
Show this item
Show this item when the shift key is down.
Do not show this item.
These are the only options available in Everything.
-All Everything items (except Open) can be hidden.
Everything will also include the system context menu.
Please manage your system context menu to reduce other items.
-or-
Use the main File menu to access basic items.
-or-
Disable the system context menu under Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> context_menu_shell_extensions=false
Thank you for the suggestion.

Re: Omit Results
Yes, getting complex.
Firstly, I support the judicious use of colours for certain meanings, especially for the annunicators (bottom right) to show certain states. My first suggestion would be to grey-out OMIT and TEMP OMIT when they're invoked (have entries) but are not active. A toggle.
Colours highlight particular information that discriminates them from those lacking that information; Bulk Rename Utility has long used colour to particularise items that will affect the current renaming action. Sadly, Total Commander doesn't use colour in its Multi-Rename Tool where it would assist in showing potentially unwanted results.
Colours: +1
Relatedly, omit/temporarily omit are highly useful particularisation functions, but whereas 'omit' has a list for omissions for inspection, temporary omissions seems not to have one.
Have I missed something? Temp omits disappear into the ether and I find myself wondering what I have temp'ly excluded. Is there a list somewhere?
Quickly
...context menu r/clicking on a result seems malformed at best, if I may say so: I have 365,000 files on this PC and excluding one file at a time rather than a class (folder, extension ...) a result belongs to seems an awkward way to go about it - but this should probably be in another thread.

There's no UI to manage the temporary omitted results.Have I missed something? Temp omits disappear into the ether and I find myself wondering what I have temp'ly excluded. Is there a list somewhere?
A list can be shown with the following search:
is-temp-result-omissions: disable-temp-result-omissions:The temporary result omissions are cleared when you close your search window/tab.
There's Right-click -> Temporary omit extension and right click under the Path column -> Parent Folder -> Temporary Omit....context menu r/clicking on a result seems malformed at best, if I may say so: I have 365,000 files on this PC and excluding one file at a time rather than a class (folder, extension ...) a result belongs to seems an awkward way to go about it - but this should probably be in another thread.
Re: Omit Results
Thank you author void. Clarity increasing.
(Ah, perhaps I see: it's two search terms acting in consort.. Excellent.)
When I invoke that bookmark, I can can dismiss it with my mouse's Back button - a facility almost as important as a mouse wheel. Alt+Left does the same.
'Temporary omit extension' - actually, it rightly uses the adverb 'temporarily'; please don't change that.
I'm running 1.5.0.1404a and there's no '..under the Path column -> Parent Folder -> Temporary Omit', so I assume you're referring to the current release of 1.4.
I see in the context menu of 1.5a when within the Path column a r/click identified section for a result's containing folder. That has slide-out controls including ones to temp omit and omit. Nice.
[Would it be 'Parent folder' or current folder (containing)? Now I'm getting confused.]
With further controls like this emerging, is an Everything Wiki available or planned? (Access available for purchase.
)
There's so much embedded in E'thing that it takes quite some training to identify its nooks and crannies.
AI may solved usage queries - but it ain't there yet.
While that list search (above) isn't exactly self-explanatory, it works well and I've saved it as a Bookmark for regular use. As good as a UI.void wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 10:39 pmThere's no UI to manage the temporary omitted results.Have I missed something? Re: Omit Results
It's there, in Everything 1.5, it's not called Parent Folder, it will be the name of the folder.I'm running 1.5.0.1404a and there's no '..under the Path column -> Parent Folder -> Temporary Omit', so I assume you're referring to the current release of 1.4.

Re: Omit Results
Yes, indeed, it is there, thank you author void - with a r/click in the Path column* there is a hierarchy of folders from the one containing to the topmost, each with fly-outs containing the option 'Temporarily Omit'. Very welcome.void wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 7:49 amIt's there, in Everything 1.5, it's not called Parent Folder, it will be the name of the folder.I'm running 1.5.0.1404a and there's no '..under the Path column -> Parent Folder -> Temporary Omit', so I assume you're referring to the current release of 1.4.

At first, I didn't read your note as:
'...under the Path column -> [Parent Folder] -> Temporary Omit.' ['Temporarily Omit' notwithstanding :- ) ]
*the Path column that I immediately slide to the left-hand-side upon installing. 'Path folder, file', like the logical non-US date format day-month-year.
Many thanks; you deserve a medal, or at least recognition in the Hall of Fame - Phil Katz, for example.
If you or anyone has the time or inclination, it would be a boon to hear how to utilise one of the AIs to learn more of E'thing usage.
Re: Omit Results
Everything 1.5.0.1405a simplifies omit results.
The following menu items have been removed:
Index -> Clear result omissions. -Use index -> Organize result omissions to clear.
Index -> Add Omit Result Filter... -Use index -> Organize result omissions to add a filter.
Index -> Add result omissions to the index exclude list.
Index -> Recently added result omissions.
Most of these items were added before temporarily result omissions existed and are no longer necessary.
Result omissions will now apply to the folders sidebar.
