Access to shared folder became very slow when Everything is scanning

Post by vinix »

I found a weird situation. When Everything is scanning a shared folder on the NAS(QNAP TS-832X), concurrent file access on the same computer can lead to intermittent performance issues. For example, saving an Excel file may take several minutes instead of the usual few seconds, and the Windows 11 Photos app may experience significant lag when zooming or switching between images.

Once I exit Everything from bottom right icon, the problem is gone.

I'm using 1.5.0.1403a.

(Not that I know, so I'll just throw it out there, but...) during this time, If you (instead of Quitting Everything)
Index | Pause Updates
, does that change anything?

And Quitting Everything does "fix" things.

And you're indexing the NAS how, a Folder Index?

Aside from Everything, aside from Quitting Everything, during this time, might you also have ongoing heavy I/O to the NAS?

Enabling Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> folder_update_thread_mode_background might help.

However, enabling folder_update_thread_mode_background can also prevent Everything from ever completing a rescan, so use with caution.

folder_update_thread_mode_background

Thank you. I'll try that.
Yes, they are folder indexs.
No, there's no heavy I/O, just open several Excel and image(JPG) files.
