Possible to avoid multiple instances?
Hi. I couldn't find a setting to allow only one single instance of Everything 1.5 Alpha. Maybe you could make an option for that?

What do you mean, "multiple instances"?
Instances, like a second Window (Ctrl+N) or a second Named Instance?

I think i'm talking about multiple windows. I would like to have only one window. There is an option "allow multiple windows", but it is already unchecked. Therefore i would expect, that only one single window can be open at any time. I regularly find myself to have to close three or four windows in the task bar.

Re: Possible to avoid multiple instances?
In -> settings -> UI -> "create a new window when running Everything". Note, that the german translation says "allow multiple search windows at the same time" here, which sounds like something slightly different to me.

The available option under General / UI just says
"Create a new window when running Everything".
If you're not closing the current Everything search window, you will get an additional one for each start, of course.
If you don't want this,
close the current search window if you are finished
or disable the option above.

Well, like is said, that option IS disabled already! So maybe it's a bug?

It's not a bug, at least it works for me under version 1.5.1352a x64.abr01 wrote: Thu Jul 13, 2023 8:54 pm Well, like is said, that option IS disabled already! So maybe it's a bug?
Delete your ini file and try it with a fresh one.

Ok, i could try that. But where would i get a new one? And i guess i would lose all settings. Can't i just rather change something in the .ini?

Re: Possible to avoid multiple instances?
Please make sure the following two options are disabled:
How are you launching Everything?
Please make sure you are not launching Everything with the -new-window command line option.
Have you enabled the allow_multiple_instances ini setting?
Everything will automatically create a new fresh Everything.ini if you delete your existing one.
Please make sure Everything is not running when deleting your Everything.ini
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the UI tab on the left.
- Uncheck Create a new window from the system tray.
- Uncheck Create a new window when running Everything.
- Click OK.

Re: Possible to avoid multiple instances?
I am starting Everything 1.5 via it's exe, which i launch per internal customized hotkey (Ctrl-Y). Now i suspect, that this is the reason, why i get new program windows, while i only want to clear the previous search. Therefore, the problem seems solved to me. I have to Shift-Tab Backspace to clear the search field then. Thank you.
Maybe you like to consider an additional option, that makes the hotkey clear the previous search instead of opening new windows? It is not a big deal anyway, but it would only save a couple of keyboard presses.

I did reconfigure the Esc key to clear the search and activate the search bar:
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
