.Net Framework error

Hi,

I'm running the latest version of Everything v1.4.1.877 (x86) on Windows 7 Ultimate. I am seeing the below (recurring & annoying) error popup



I already have re-installed .Net v4.0.30319 (C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\)

Any help towards a resolution would be appreciated.

Everything doesn't use the .NET framework directly.

One of Everything's dependencies might be using the .NET framework.

Please make sure your Everything.exe is signed by me, David Carpenter.
Check for other software that might be injecting dlls.

Please try reinstalling the Visual C++ redistributables.

I checked and 'Everything.exe' is valid & signed by you.
As for the points regarding dependencies, DLL injection & VC++ redistributables; I am afraid, that I am none the wiser.
Any hand-holding would be appreciated

(This post is just a memory-dump. Things might have changed (or I might be wrong somewhere))

Don't think you need redistributables.
The only versioned DLL In the manifest of Everything.exe references MS Common Contrrols 6.0, which is comctl32.dll. That is part of the operating system.
On my system (Win7) it is located in "C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7601.23403_none_e36ad4593102f066\comctl32.dll"

sigcheck..exe (SysInternals) reports:

You better start of with running SFC /scannow from the command prompt to let Windows repair itself (administrative rights needed)



BTW: .Net Framework uses some tricky versioning: Version 4.0 - 4.5 all have vrrsion 4.0.30319. A subversion (4.0.30319.xxxx) tells you if it is 4.0 or 4.5 (or ..)
In 4.7 they started using different versions. Can't remember how 4.6 was versioned.

I have downloaded and installed 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x86) - 14.0.23026 from the provided path. However, setup failed with 0x80240017 - Unspecified error

I still get the above mentioned error, on a periodic basis:

I did a little searching and downloaded a program 'ASoft .NET version detector 17 R1b' and it found that I have CLR 2 (Microsoft .Net 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, 3.5 SP1 & CLR 4 4.0) installed (Log provided below)

I gave it a try but the error still persists

Meanwhile, I found another link to resolving the issue, with the below steps:

1.Open c:/windows/sysWow64 (64) bit or system32 (32) bit
2.Find mscoree.dll and check version (it must be 4) if you have version 1 or 2 or 3:
3.Go to : http://tinyurl.com/axfgzhv and download "takeownership" and install it.
4.Take ownership :
5.Download http://tinyurl.com/9m81.
6.Rename your mscoree.dll (in system32 or systemWow64) :mscoree1.dll
7.Put downloaded mscoree.dll in the folder.



Now here's the mysterious part...
On following the above steps & after copying the new file (right pane) to the 'C:\Windows\System32' folder, the new file shows the version as 2.0.50727.4927 (Grrr!)

I've tried that but no juice
Quite frankly, I'm at my wit's end with this and see no way out, except for a clean install (which is a dim option, for now)
