Indexing Service
Does everything require the indexing service in windows XP to be active in order to work, or can it be disabled in order to save system resources?

"Everything" does not require the Windows indexing service.
"Everything" uses the USN Change Journal for updating.
The USN Change Journal is maintained by the NTFS driver.
