Opening Everything without any files appeared

Post by StesfanzFr »

Hello.
I use version 1.4.1.1032 (x64) of everything under Windows 11. I open it with the desktop icon.
No files appear on the upper left square (names, path, etc).
First install inzip format. The problem occured ;
After, I reinstalled with the exe method in C: \Program\Everything, but that doesn’t change anything.

When I put the true entire filemane (characters with the same case, i.e. lowercase or uppercase),
Everything don’t find it…… (In French words : pétard de briquette ! / goat flatulence ! )
It’s a shame because when the tool works, it’s great! Realy.....

Questions :
How can automatically updated files always be displayed when opened ?
Moreover, how to obtain a list of filenames, just after opening the tool, please ?
Thank you for any responses.

(I'm not too clear on what you're asking...)

Go back to the ZIP.
Extract Everything.exe & throw it into a different (new) directory.

double-click on Everything.exe

It should open, & will prompt you as to how you want to deal with the service (if one is not already running).

At that point, all your files should be displaying.

After that, (some) things that may affect display are:

Search (menu items) that are selected or not
Filters that are enabled
Tools | Options | General -> Home, may affect what happens when you open a new window

Please try reinstalling Everything.

Make sure the following options are checked in the installer:

Settings and data location = %APPDATA%\Everything (recommended)
NTFS indexing = Install the Everything Service (recommended)

Once Everything is installed:

Please make sure no search options are checked under the Search menu (eg: uncheck match case, uncheck match whole words, uncheck regex)

Please make sure the Everything filter is active under the Search menu.

Please make sure these files are not excluded under Tools -> Options -> Exclude.

Please make sure your NTFS volumes are included in your index:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the NTFS tab on the left.
  • For each NTFS volume:
    • Check Include in database.
  • Click OK.

Please try forcing a rebuild:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Indexes tab on the left.
  • Click Force Rebuild.
  • Click OK.

Does the issue persist?
