Help with a result omission: filetype in all subfolders of a drive recursively

Post by gggirlgeek »

I'm sure I'm going to feel stupid here but help writing a simple(??) omission/filter woud be appreciated.

In Result Omissions I want to exclude all .exe files on drive S:\ only, recusively. I want all other file extensions to show up in S:. I want .exe files to show up on all other drives.
My query example: q-dir
Filter: Everything
Result Omissions: Enabled

I've searched the forum and tried all I can think of. Tried Add Filter:
S:\*.exe\*\*
S:\*\* *.exe
S:\*\*\*.exe (etc. etc. ....)
s:/ *.exe
S:/ ext:exe
S:/ whole:ancestor-child-file:.exe
S:/ ancestor-child-file:.exe
S:/ ancestor-child-file:*.exe
s:/ descendant-file:.exe (and many iterations of this)
I've also tried creating a filter with the above functions/queries (but with ! in front of them.)

I think functions (or whatever, example: descendant:) may not work as omissions? If not, what about filters specifying a drive letter?

Help pleeeeeeease? :?

Please try the following result omission filter:

S:\**.exe

* = matches any character (except \) any number of times.
** = matches any character any number of times.

Syntax is shown when you hover over the filter box.

Of COURSE it worked!

It never occurred to me that "\" was being excluded. I just don't think of it as a character I guess.

Seems to work for S:/**.exe too!

Yay! Thanks!!!
