Ignore colon in search - am I missing an option?

Post by findit4teepee »

Hello,

This is my first post so, please, be gentle
I'm on Windows which means colons in filenames are prohibited. I am doing a PhD where most articles I search for have a colon in their title. So I'd like to be able to drop a title (which includes a colon) into Everything and, without manually deleting the colon, have Everything ignore it.
I've read that one way to achieve this result is to select Search>Disable punctuation but I don't have that option.

Given that, could someone guide me on the best way to achieve my goal?
Thanks very much!
PS I'm on Version 1.4.1.1032 (x64)

Everything 1.4 doesn't have an option to ignore punctuation in the search.
You will have to manually remove the colon from your search or change it to space.

Please try Everything 1.5 beta, in Everything 1.5 paste your title in Everything with
Ctrl + Shift + V

This will paste without punctuation.

Everything 1.5 also has the Search -> Ignore punctuation option.
However, this only ignores punctuation in your filenames by default.
You'll also need to set Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> ignore_punctuation_type to filename and search.
When ignore_punctuation_type is set to filename and search and ignore punctuation under the Search menu is checked, Everything will ignore the : in your search.

Thank you very much. Most helpful!

Pasting using ctrl-shift-v works perfectly. Thank you for that option!
