Re: Corpus of Everything index consist of more than a million duplicates of two files

Post by LateralNw »

Hope I am in the right place.
I have duplicate files with duplicate date and time and size

I did a search on a file and it returned many of the same names in the same folder.
I did a sha256 and they are the same number... I read the last 4 digits figure that should be enough.

I have deleted the db and rebuilt it.
I got the same result
I moved the db to a different drive
I got the same result
I had also moved the db to the root of C:\ but got the same result.

I also noticed that the sort on path doesn't seem to work as expected. see image.

It is showing 2 directories with the same file name with exactly the same size files and date stamp.

Perhaps I have a setting that is causing it?

Thanks.

Moved from Corpus of Everything index consist of more than a million duplicates of two files.

These look like real files.

Since forcing a rebuild doesn't help, please check if the files/folders are found in Windows Explorer.

If they are not found in Windows Explorer, please check your drives for errors:
  • Please backup anything important on your drive before checking it for errors.
  • In Windows Explorer, right click your drive and click Properties.
  • Click the Tools tab.
  • Click Check now...
  • Click Start
  • If prompted to schedule a scan on the next restart, click Yes.

The sorting is expected.
Note the different timestamps in the subfolders, eg: 20240320, 20240327, 20240406, etc...

Name, yes.
Size, only to the extent that a KB sized file happens to = another KB sized file.

Folder, not. They files are in different folders.

I did a sha256 and they are the same number
The same number, where? Within Everything?
If so, drag the same set of files from within Everything, into a different hash program & see what that says.
(CHK Hash Tool should work.)

@void

I never got an email saying there was an answer to my post. FYI

On closer inspection they are in different directories with just the last 2 digits changed in the date part of the folder name which I obviously missed.
You mentioned that at the bottom of your post eg: 20240320, 20240327, 20240406. Thank you. DOH!
sorry for the time wasting.

I couldn't reply directly to void as there was no reply option under this post.

therube I don't' understand what you where asking.

An sha result is an sha regardless of where it comes from isn't it?

Thanks for the input. My question has been resolved. My mistake.
