newby here, no longer showing directory at the top

Post by svey262 »

Good day,

I have been using Everything a few weeks. I really liked it at the begining.

Now, instead of showing the few files that are in the root directory I am opening, then the different directories on that drive, I am getting all individual files listing with their respective directory in the path. It must be a setting that I did change by accident but I don't know how to get things the way they were.

Tx for your help,

Yves

Please make sure nothing is checked under the Search menu (eg: uncheck match case, match whole words)

Please make sure the Everything filter is active under the Search menu.

Please check your sort.
Click the Column header to change the sort.
Please try sorting by Name.

Set your default search settings under Tools -> Options -> Home.

Tx for the suggestion

In explorer, when I see:

X:\Projects Files\WorkOrder

with 25 files that are in the root directory of X:\Projects Files\WorkOrder, then the directory are listed.

In Everthing, I am getting "now" all the files.

I would like to see the directory displayed in the same fashion Win11 does it. I had is like that for the first 10 days.

Tx

How do you mean in the same fashion Win11 does it?

Do you mean the order of the files?
With the treeview on the left? (Everything -> View -> Folders)

Is it possible to have something like that within Everything?

Love the search fonctions, like the speed.

To reset the sort to the default:
From the View menu, under the Sort by sub menu, check Run Count.

To show folders first:
From the View menu, under the Sort by sub menu, check Name.

Folders will be shown first.

Tx for your suggestions Void,

After trying what you suggested, I am assuming that a "sort" like the screen capture provide is not possible as what I am getting does not match the provided screen capture. Tx for taking the time to help me.

Are you running Everything 1.5?
In that case:
- Show the Folders sidebar (Menu => View => Folders)
- In the left pane (= Folders sidebar), select your C:\ drive
- At the bottpm of the Folders sidebar, uncheck Subfolders
- In the header of the results, click on Date Modified
(you might have to do this twice to get the order right)

Hi,

Tx for your help.

This is the version I am running. If I try to update, I get a message saying I have the lastest version.

Version 1.4.1.1030 (x86)

From your screenshot, I am not sure what you want.
The folders are shown at the bottom, not the top.

The screen shot shows results sorted by Date Modified.
If you want to sort results by date modified in Everything:
From the View menu, under the Sort by submenu, check Date Modified.
