Everything We Needed, Nothing We Didn’t

Post by eagleeyez »

Dear David,

I want to take a moment to express something that many of us have felt almost every time we’ve used Everything: gratitude. You have given us what countless users consider one of the most useful tools of any poweruser toolset. Its usability, features, and importance are unmatched for what it is intended to help us with.

You have given us what many of us consider the best piece of software ever made for Windows OS, no matter what. Everything is not just a program ;;; it is a companion in our daily work no matter the project or activity, a trusted tool that has quietly become essential. Its usability, features, and importance are unmatched, and it has earned a place in the hearts of countless users around the world and it is sad that still a majority doesn't know about it.

You’ve done an amazing job maintaining it and adding new features, all while dealing with the super chaotic Windows environment quirks. Yet, despite those challenges, you’ve ensured that most of us can rely on it even on legacy machines. That kind of dedication is rare, and it shows the depth of care and craftsmanship you’ve poured into your work.

Thank you for keeping Everything lightweight and fast, for resisting the temptation to let it become bloated, and for your wit about making the database even smaller and faster — something none of us would ever refute. You’ve kept it pure, free from spyware, malware, and the machine, and that means more than words can say.

Many of us have thought of writing a tribute like this almost every time we used Everything to find, in the blink of an eye, exactly what we were looking for. We often wish other software could be as swift, helpful, and respectful of the user as yours. Everything has set a standard that others can only dream of reaching.

I also hope you have in mind a way to ensure the project’s future if you ever grow tired of developing it. You’ve resisted the temptation to sell it off and see it turned into bloat-crap-spy-mal-ware, and that resistance has preserved its “soul purity”. It would mean so much to know that Everything will remain for future generations. Knowing that Everything will remain would be a comfort to so many.

And of course, we wonder: what is your secret? How do you do things this well consistently? What is your routine? Will you one day share your story in a biography or a book or maybe your teachings? We would love to learn more about the human behind this masterpiece; the thoughts, habits, and inspirations that made Everything possible.

Please know that your work has touched lives. It has saved us time, frustration, and effort, and it has given us joy in its simplicity and speed. It is a rare thing in today’s world to find software that feels like it was made with love, and Everything is exactly that.

From one fellow human to another: thank you for creating, maintaining, and keeping Everything free for everyone. You’ve given us something of great value and timeless beyond software's world, something that makes our lives easier and brighter every single day.

With deep appreciation and respect,
Peace&Love!
