Request: Assignable Hotkey for “New Window in Current Path”

Hi,

I’d like to request a new hotkey option in Everything 1.5a under
Options → Keyboard, similar to “New window hotkey” and “Toggle window hotkey”.

Specifically, I’d love to have a “New window in current path” hotkey.
This would instantly open a new Everything window that starts in the same path as the currently active one — very useful when working with multiple directories or searches in parallel.

Could this be made assignable like the other hotkeys?

I know about the hotkey_explorer_path_search=0 option — which lets Everything open from Explorer in the current path. That works great for Explorer integration.

However, I’d love to have a similar built-in hotkey inside Everything itself — something like “New window or toggle window in current path” — that can be assigned in Options → Keyboard (as shown in the screenshot).

Basically, this would open a new Everything window starting in the same folder as the current one, without needing to trigger it from Explorer.

Everything doesn't really have a current path.

I would consider the current path to be the single selection in the folder sidebar.
I would also consider a search for

C:\Windows\

or

"C:\Program Files\Everything\"

to be the current path.

Should I just use the above current path when hotkey_explorer_path_search is enabled?
Should I add another option hotkey_everything_path_search ?



It doesn't really need to be a hotkey, it could just be a normal keyboard shortcut for a 'open current path in Everything' command.
I will consider such a command.

Basically what I really want is universal hotkey for Context Menu --> Search Everything 1.5a...
So that there are two different hotkey.
One for Universal search, for the whole computer, Which is the Toggle Window key, which works perfectly.
I want another hotkey for same toggle but with current window
Basically what happens when you enable hotkey_explorer_path_search=1
Right now you can have One or the other not both.

If not a UI option, I will consider a separate ini setting.
