I have a series of network drives which I can only access when I'm home or connected through a VPN. I'm almost always connected when I'm using my computer, but the VPN connection drops when the computer sleeps or otherwise boots up before I manually connect. I used to be able to index these network drives and they would consistently show up, but for a few months now that is no longer the case. If I force it to index while connected, it will populate though this takes a very long time. Then a few days later when I boot up the index has completely lost these network drive results.
They are identified as folders for the index in the form of "\\fileserver\example". I've also seen other posts complaining of similar behavior where it was suggested to make sure "run as administrator" is unchecked and "store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything" is checked, both of which are true. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but nothing seems to be able to keep the results in the index beyond a day or two.
Has anyone had similar issues recently and been able to resolve?
BTW, I'm running Everything V1.4.1.1028 in combination with the EverythingToolbar on Windows 11.
Index keeps removing files on network drive
Re: Index keeps removing files on network drive
Everything is likely rescanning this network share while it is offline and sees it as empty.
Please try disabling folder_update_rescan_asap:
Copy and paste the following into your Everything search box:
Press ENTER in your Everything search box.
If successful, folder_update_rescan_asap=0 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.
When disabled, no rescan will occur if a scheduled rescan is missed.
When disabled, please occasionally rescan your network shares from Tools -> Options -> Folders -> <network share> -> Rescan Now.
Offline detection of network shares has been improved in Everything 1.5.
