Use case inspiration

Post by spooky »

Hi there! I'm not really asking for support or anything, just super curious about what this software can do for the slightly above average user. I tried the official documentation first, but there are so, so many search functions and honestly I feel like most of them are of no use unless I'm a huge media collector or something like that, but maybe I'm not seeing things clearly. I then started to regularly check topics on this forum, old and new, to collect use cases for inspiration, but a lot of them, mostly questions, get really technical and far from any use I can give, like server stuff or photography properties.

So far, I've obviously used Everything to find files (very) quickly, and from time to time to sort them all by size to free up my hard drive. I found the
dupe:
function interesting, so I tried it out, thinking it would be a feature that would suit my level of "data hoarder", but most of the results were Windows files that I shouldn't be messing with, so I'm not sure I'll be doing that again. I collect pictures, movies and to a lesser extent music (I'm on Spotify these days), but it doesn't seem like anything too big to have unnoticed duplicates.

I'm sure there is more I can do to juice up Everything, I'm all ears for untechie use cases.

Please try the Advanced Search under the Search menu.
The Advanced Search offers a simple UI to the most used search functions.

As for finding dupes, please try limiting your results and using dupe:size

"C:\media\" | "d:\media\" | "E:\backup folder\" dupe:size
