I have set up a small home network of 4 computers with shared folders and local mapped drives. My remote drive locations have been added as virtual mounted directories without driver letters on my desktop using SFTP Drive 2024 due to minimal available drive letters.
- Is it correct for ES to be automatically adding my virtual mounted directories as FAT Drives? If not, how do I get it to stop doing it?
This is an issue because I only need 1 directory with its subdirectories scanned. ES seems to be unnecessarily scanning all directories in the remote folder and it takes hours to do it. Also, as Fat Drive designation Im not getting the benefit of Fast Updating of the Index.
- I think the proper location in ES for the remote mounted directories should be in Folder Index. I have added all of them to the Folder Index but I am concerned that ES may be doing double work scanning/counting the FAT Index and the Folder Index files.
- I dont see any way to Exclude the FAT Index directories and only include the Folder Index directories except by option Include In Database which doesnt seem to stop the scanning.

ES adding Virtual Folders as Fat Drives
Re: ES adding Virtual Folders as Fat Drives
(Got to run, but...)
Do the drives show up in Indexes | FAT ?
Even if they do, they are only indexed if, Include in database is selected for them.
If you do not want them indexed that way, uncheck 'Include in database'.
They will still be shown, but will not be indexed.
(I have no knowledge of said "virtual" mechanism, so don't know if that changes things.)
There are other options that can be set, used, to not auto include anything, such that you have to manually add wanted drives, folders, ...
