Just curious,is 1.4 in ANY way superiour to 1.5?
It's beeen almost 4 years since 1.4 and I was just wondering if there is any reason anyone would use 1.4 over 1.5(it have WAY more features)

Yes!
But there again I will argue that 1.5 is superior to 1.4
At least one factor in our decision has to be the purpose you have in the use of Everything.
If I were still in a money-earning commercial business, I would possibly go for the 1.4, because 1.4 is likely to be more stable than the weekly-changing 1.5. (These arguments are true for all software products). In particular if I were charging training sessions in Everything I would start off new users with 1.4 because it is both stable and simpler and covers all the needs of the beginner user.
But I am retired! I no longer charge anybody anything for my services, and my most likely external use of Everything would arise if a local resident brings their laptop to me saying "I can't find the photographs of Aunt Myrtle". Then I might install 1.5 and give the user specific search strings to accomplish the basic tasks of unearthing long-dead Aunt Myrtle.
That's me.
Now about every other user, you can do yourself a favour by using Advanced Search to obtain a numeric measure of the number of posts referring to 1.4 and the number of posts referring to 1.5. Over the past month; over the past year. Doesn't have to be accurate, but get yourself some idea of which version is attracting the most discussion(1)
I have been using Everything for about ten years, but at the "*.doc" level for all but the past two years. I consider myself a beginner, and so I decided to make use of 1.5 because I felt that there was a great deal more focus and interest in 1.5 (in terms of number of topics, numbers of active members) and so a query about using 1.5 would attract more viewers than a query about 1.4, (can you think of two reasons why this must be so?) and that responses would probably entertain some feature of 1.5 that were not in 1.4.
Cheers, Chris
(1)If you feel like it, tally for version 1.3 while you are at it.
Re: Everything 1.4 vs 1.5
NO, not at all for me!
A glance at the histories since March 2021 shows that an enormous amount of development work has been done in Everything 1.5a to date:
Everything 1.4 - Changes.txt | Everything 1.5 Alpha
I have been using the Everything 1.5a version since the beginning and, with almost daily use,
I have not had any problems that were not solved within a very short time.
On the contrary: there are many new features and improvements that make working easier.
There is certainly still room for improvement, but according to the wording, it is still Everything 1.5 Alpha.
In this regard, I am very confident because the author even fulfills some wishes
that, in my opinion, fall into the “nice to have” category.
I think it's a good time to switch from Everything 1.4 to 1.5.

Re: Everything 1.4 vs 1.5
Hi Tuska; I agree with you. That is why I wrote "At least one factor in our decision has to be the purpose you have in the use of Everything." and came up with two reasons, for me; one if I were delivering training in Everything on a commercial basis (1.4) and one if I were coaching my neighbour (1.5).
In other words, it depends on what you use Everything for.
I agree with the rest of your post excepting the bit about "make working easier". Again, 1.4 offers a static (better than stable!) platform for newbies.A glance at the histories since March 2021 ... that make working easier.
Think about what you would introduce on a one-day or even a two-day course; it could all be done with 1.4.
You could round out the two-day course with an hour and a half of demonstrations of 1.5 features NOT available in 1.4; just enough so that people would remember that specific features are available in 1.5. At a later date, students could then decide whether they wanted to upgrade to 1.5.
I agree that anyone (like me) who has been using Everything for two years or more ought to consider upgrading to 1.5.
Cheers, Chris
