Everything doesn't register recent changes.

Post by FailSafeNow »

I use Everything on Windows. I don't know what happened. It used to register changes right away. Now I have to restart the computer or force rebuild the database in order for some results to update. I don't know what happened.

If I create a new folder and give it a name, for instance, and then search for it, for some reason I see a shortcut to the folder in Microsoft / WIndows / Recent, but I don't see the folder itself in the results.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Everything, but it didn't solve the problem.

What do I do?

I don't see that, but maybe that is different on Windows 10/11?

Is this an NTFS drive & the drive is Included in database, USN Journal is Enabled, & you are Monitoring changes?
(All default settings in Tools | Options | Indexes -> NTFS)

Might the Path of the particular folder be excluded (in Everything)?

NTFS, yes. All my drives are included under the NTFS tab. Under indexes, "Index recent changes" is checked. The thing of "Load recent changes from USN journal" wasn't checked for anything. Will checking it make a difference? Enabling USN Journal and checking "Load recent changes from USN journal"? I don't know. "Monitor Changes" was checked for every drive, though.

Well, I tried checking "Load recent" etc. It didn't work.

Hmm. It seems the problem is confined to one drive only. And that drive gives me an error when I try to create a USN Journal on it. Maybe that's the problem.

I'm gonna keep pursuing this path.

Ok, after running checkdisk, it seems to be fixed. Everything finds recent changes like it's supposed to.
