Add Search Everything in Chrome Right Click

Post by fredjones »

If select some text in Chrome and righ click it gives you the option of Search for "selected text" in Google, it would be great to be have an option that says Search for "selected text" in Everything. Currently I have to copy, start Everything and paste the copied text in Everything. See attached Snippet. This would be the same as the right click menu in the Windows File Manager.

I use Firefox and there I have 3 options to do so (for a 4th option, see next post). Similar should be available for Chrome.
  1. a bookmarklet
  2. Using Textify. Instructions for Everything by @tuska here (Total Commander forum).
  3. a browser extension -- Context Search -- to add context menu entries.
On Chrome you can take a look at Simple = Select + Search

You're welcome!

All these options make use of Everything's URL protocol.
That setting can be found under Menu:Tools => Options => General

Actually, there is a fourth option, the one I use most. There were reasons why I didn't post it before, but can't remember what they were, so ...

Another Firefox extension - Gesturefy - makes the following possible:
Select some text in Firefox and drag it diagonally up using the right mouse button. Everything will be opened and searches for that text.

How:
- Install the Gesturefy add-on
- Add a new mouse gesture (here diagonally up)
- Command = Search text selection
- Search engine URL = es:%s
- Label = Search in Everything

Note that the URL protocol in Everything needs to be activated (Menu:Tools => Options => General)
