voidtools is moving to Cloudflare

Post by void »

voidtools is moving to Cloudflare to help with bandwidth.

Please expect some downtime in the next 24 hours.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

I don't know if i should say "congratulations 🎉" or "sorry to hear that :(", but to me this sounds like a good thing. Cloudflare has served me very very well on the free tier so far, and they seem to be a 'better-for-all-humanity' kind of company.

Thank you, David. I search several phpBBS sites, and those with CloudFlare are a pleasurable; CloudFlare eliminates those messages that "we are overloaded please try again" due to an attack by bots.
Thanks again, Chris

sucks*

doesn't work in my browser, https://www.seamonkey-project.org/
you have to click a "box" - every single time
you have to "trust" cloudflare - at least, initially
simply a PITA, IMO

Now, I understand why, but color me old fashioned, & when bogus "crap" gets in my way, I simply don't like it.

@therube, are you seeing a CloudFlare challenge?
Or is this an SSL certificate issue?

There shouldn't be any CloudFlare challenges, all forum traffic still goes directly to my server.

I've disable browser checks in CloudFlare.
Does the issue persist?

The decision to move to cloudflare has nothing to do with the botnets.
I had to move because I exceeded my bandwidth limit last month. 6TB+ of Everything downloads.
Cloudflare will help cache these downloads.

For me there has nothing changed in the usage of voidtools by cloudflare.
Tested with actual Firefox and MS Edge.

Oh, if the change is now done, if it was done yesterday, then, no, I am not seeing (& was not seeing) any issues.
All is well :-).

(I was expecting to see a change, captcha/challenge & whatnot - with cloudflare, as that would not work in SeaMonkey.)

[Though I do [now] see that cloudflareinsights.com is here.]

cloudflareinsights.com
Granted, I have no clue what website analytics is, are, does (& assume that is 'cloudflareinsights' ?), I only noticed that it as newly there. And, afaik it would not affect me (unless it does stuff without JavaScript - unlikely I'd think), so if it provides you with some benefit, go for it.

(It is the challenge that breaks my end.)

I don't want Cloudflare injecting anything into my webpages.

Please let me know if you're seeing any challenges on voidtools.com

For other sites, does SeaMonkey have the option to set the user agent?
-If so, please try setting it to something common and recent.

does SeaMonkey have the option to set the user agent
Of course.
But that will not help with https://challenges.cloudflare.com.
(So any site that uses challenges.cloudflare.com is dead to me (in SeaMonkey).)

Cloudflare (challenges) is a closed box.
So essentially anything that is not "google" is blocked.
(And as it is with so much on the web today, essentially everything is [coded for] "google", so that means Chrome.
And that Firefox or Safari may happen to work is simply a by-product. And of course, bots are exempt [from blockage].)

CloudFlare does a "browser check" by default.

This was on for the first day when I switched to CloudFlare and likely explains why you saw a challenge.
"browser check" is off now.

So to me, this means CloudFlare does a "browser check"/challenge when it sees a SeaMonkey user agent.
Maybe setting your SeaMonkey user agent to the latest chrome user agent will prevent challenges for other sites?
I'm just saying.. I think CloudFlare is extra aggressive at flagging SeaMonkey user agents as bots.
It's not going to help if those sites have enabled "I'm under attack", all user agents will get a challenge.
