I noticed most the reason my startup is so damn slow is because soon as everything is launched its choking the disk usage
is there no way to have startup on, but have it delayed on indexing for like 5mins later.. its not like ever need to use the the tool 5mins into a pc start... should be configurable..its just stupid having it do that indexing on startup soon as it loads which is often before anyone else has loaded that is more important.

Re: Delay Startup
Everything shouldn't be indexing on startup.
Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
Whats the last rebuild reason under Tools -> Debug -> Statistics -> Build -> Last rebuild reason?
Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the General tab on the left.
- Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
- Uncheck Run as administrator.
- Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
- Click OK.
- Exit Everything (from the File menu, click Exit).
- Restart Everything.

Re: Delay Startup
If you were to shutdown & restart, can we assume that you will get the same message - with the date: being current (at the new startup)?Last build date: 25/09/2026 13:08
Last rebuild reason: Unable to open database file.
As in, is the .db being rebuilt on every startup?
(If that is the case, why that would happen, I wouldn't know.)
Also, you have 'Run as administrator' set.
Is there a particular reason for you doing so? (In general, one would not want that set.)

Common causes for Everything running as administratorvoid wrote: Fri Dec 15, 2023 9:58 pm The indeterminate "-" check means Everything is not set to run as administrator.
However, Everything was launched as administrator by the parent process.

Thank you for the rebuild reason:
Please send your Help -> Troubleshooting information.
Have you changed your Tools -> Options -> Indexes -> Database location ?

Re: Delay Startup
Surely that wouldn't fix it? Empty should just mean it saves to exe location("Portable"). All my instances are empty and save to their exes.
Maybe some permission issue? Idk if other things like run history saves still.
The ini default is probably to not run as admin so it seems the ini saves..Or it only keeps whatever was initially copied as clearly you were at some point able to extract/install the program and copy/generate an ini.
Maybe it's a Windows 11 thing, some security thing they introduced there. I only know that Windows Defender can delay things or/and prevent merging from a .tmp state. The .tmp file would still exist if so though. EBV uses .tmp.
Also I notice your profile says made 2009..It's been this way this entire time?
Or did it start recently, maybe a change you made?
It's also before void's own account, heh..

Well today at pc start...
Build
Count: 7
Total duration: 05:33
Minimum duration: 29.217159 seconds
Maximum duration: 68.902945 seconds
Average duration: 47.660848 seconds
Last duration: 34.475153 seconds
Last build date: 26/09/2026 12:42
Last rebuild reason: Out of date NTFS volume C: is available
something different, yes I thought empty just meant default was used.

Re: Delay Startup
Please check Everything is saving to disk correctly:
Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
Restart Everything.
Does Everything load quickly?
If Everything does a reindex, please check your "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Everything\Everything.db" has been modified.
-has the date modified been updated to something very recent?
If the reindexing persists after a restart, check Windows is shutting down gracefully.
Check for any stuck Windows updates. -some updates can make millions of changes, which can force Everything to reindex.
Please let me know if the issue persists.
