RFI: Advanced Rename (Shift+F2), a dirty bit indicator
or rather an equal bit indicator
when multiple files are selected, perhaps some sort of indicator if those file names are named equally, the same (==)?
i select some files, & in the rename dialog, i happen to see %1 & with that, i know the files are not the same name. but given the dialog size, there could be differences (a %1) that i'm not seeing, & in such situations, i don't know if my selected files are in fact named the same or not
it would be nice to know, ahead of any actual renaming, such that i don't end up renaming in a manner i was not expecting. so, if on selection, there were some sort of indicator (==) (or whatever), that would tell me that they are in fact equal, that i can
rename without fear that there are diffs that i am just not aware of
as it is now, i'll often mouse-over to see if i happen to catch any diffs, or i'll copy the names & paste them into and editor to again check, & even with that, one is still apt to missing some subtle difference, like a (-) in one name & not the other - that simply is not too apparent
so if on selection, Everything said, "hey they are in fact ==", then i need not be concerned
RFI: Advanced Rename - dirty bit indicator
Re: RFI: Advanced Rename - dirty bit indicator
I think this would have to go in the advanced rename dialog, not the main UI.
Maybe as a status at the bottom?
For example: <x> filenames changed
and highlight the filenames that do change? (or maybe the filenames that do not change)

Re: RFI: Advanced Rename - dirty bit indicator
What I'm wanting is just something very basic that clue me in on equality, without having to actually look or think.
(IOW, I AM A.I.
)
1. the names look the same, but i don't know
2. the names ARE the same - Everything has told me (by the highlight)
3. the names look the same, but i still don't really know, cause it is simply too much data & i might have missed something?
.
1. the names look the same, but i don't know, but... i'll assume they are.
2. ah, the names are NOT the same, the %1 (or \1) clue me in on that, so i'm good
X. BUT, in this case, i can see the %1, but the %1 need to in the visible area, so depending on circumstances, i might not know?
.
1. the names look the same, but i don't know...
2. not seeing any %1, so they are the same, right?
3. in this case, when i maximize (which I did with F11, right
), i'm drawn to the fact that the extensions are different
(because i have 'Ignore extension' enabled, there was no %1 to clue me in)
X. so in this case, the names (incl. extension) are NOT identical, so no highlight
.
