Request for Option to Exclude Parent Folder from Folder Data CRC-32 While Including Subfolders

Post by hxe3 »

I'm using Everything 1.5a on a low-end system and experiencing long indexing times due to Folder Data CRC-32 processing massive system folders like C:\Windows and C:\Users.

The issue is that when I exclude a folder (e.g., C:\Windows) in the Folder CRC-32 settings, it recursively excludes all subfolders — there is no way to exclude only the parent folder while still including subfolders in CRC-32 calculation.

This forces me to either:
- Endure extremely long indexing times (weeks, only reaching ~25%)
- Or lose Folder Data CRC-32 for all subfolders entirely

Suggested Feature:
Add a "Include subfolders" checkbox in the "Exclude Folders" list under Tools > Options > Folder CRC-32.

This would allow users to:
- Exclude top-level folders like C:\Windows, C:\Users, Program Files
- But still calculate Folder Data CRC-32 for their subfolders (e.g., C:\Windows\Temp, C:\Users\Public)

This would greatly improve usability for users who want CRC-32 hashing on custom folders without being blocked by system folder overhead.

Thank you for your continued development of Everything.

I will consider a no subfolders modifier.
Thank you for the feedback and suggestion.

For now, please set the property include only folders to:
c:\*\**
