Scanning of specific NAS-Folder is not pssible

Post by hipoh »

Hello everyone here!

Most of my NAS-folders are scanned by Everything (operating with Win10 64bit) without problems.
However sometimes it happens that a specific folder refuses to be scanned.

What could be the reason?

Is that probably due to folder-path and/or folder-names are too long?
To check this I have reduced this names significantly - but no change!

Regards,

The most common issue is the path is in your exclude list.

Please make sure the folder is not excluded under Tools -> Options -> Exclude.

Please make sure no search options are checked under the Search menu (eg: uncheck match case, uncheck match whole words, uncheck regex)

Please make sure the Everything filter is active under the Search menu.

Does the issue persist?

- my exclude list is totally empty
- no folder is excluded
- no search options are checked

- Everything Filter active ... what do you mean by that?

the issue currently persists

Thanks!!!
Ok, will try to update...

Currently I was using Version 1.4.1.1030 (x64). Hope this solves the issue...

Is updating to Everything 1.4.1.1032 ok, or should I install Everything-1.5.0.1404a.x64 (the Alpha Version)?

I would switch to Everything 1.5.0.1407a.

If you are interested, you can take a look at this post - Solution: Portable installation in C:\Everything -
and download Everything with my settings:
Everything - Einstiegshilfe (Everything for beginners) - Google Translate: German/Deutsch -> English

Path adjustments, etc. should be carried out afterwards.

Many thanks!!! But I am not the kind of user suitable for alpha versions. Maybe I will try it as portable installation...

For the moment: after two new starts od the OS and after updating the database two times the scan on the special folder worked (btw: I call it special, but it a normal folder on my NAS).

Maybe that was an updating or database size problem?
The surveillance funtion was ON.
Now I put the database size to 2000 kb and actualize every hour. Maybe this solved the issue.

The actualisation runs in the background. Difficult to see its status. There is no progress indicator (this would be fine).

Thanks for your replies!

Thank you for the information hipoh,

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (from the File menu, click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

If the folder is still missing folders, please try a manual rescan from Tools -> Options -> Folders -> (select your NAS folder) -> Rescan Now.

a specific folder
Anything specific about this specific folder?

You're Indexing the NAS how; NTFS, Folder... ?

Are you able to access said folder with Windows Explorer?
Might permissions be playing in?
