Menu "Edit" > "Find... CTRL+F" > ☑ Highlight All --- Refresh view: Problem

Post by tuska »

Hi,

I have noticed a refresh problem.

Example:
0. ☑ Highlight All ... is checked by default.
1. Search for: Everything.ini
2. Press Ctrl+F
3. Enter the search term: Default ... at the bottom (above the status bar) to highlight file names
4. Restore your default view (e.g., ALT+Y = Default view)
5. Enter the search term: Everything.ini again in the search bar
6. Press Ctrl+F -> the last search term entered, “default,” will be displayed below (above the status bar)
7. ☑ Highlight All ... is checked
8. The search term “default” is not highlighted in the search results.
9. The option ☑ Highlight All ... must be turned off and then turned on again
so that the search term is displayed in color again.

Please check.
Thank you!

What is your default view filter search?
(I tried your most recent one but was unable to reproduce the issue)

Are you closing the find-bar in your default view filter?

I can reproduce the "issue" by:

0. ☑ Highlight All ... is checked by default.
1. Search for: Everything.ini
2. Press Ctrl+F
3. Enter the search term: Default ... at the bottom (above the status bar) to highlight file names
4. Close the find-bar

However, this is the expected behavior.
Closing the find-bar, then reopening the find-bar will not apply highlighting until you change the find-bar search. (or press ENTER in the find-bar search box)

Default view:
I have revised the standard view in the meantime (and will continue to keep it up to date here):
Everything - Einstiegshilfe (Everything for beginners) - Point 7.3 ... 1. Name: Everything - Standardansicht/Default View ALT+Y
Last command: /command 40322   nop:"UI_ID_EDIT_CLOSE_FINDBAR 40322"

Hmm, if ☑ Highlight All ... is checked, then I would expect the search term to be highlighted in this case as well.
(I am referring to my processing steps listed above).

But it's good to know how to deal with it.

Thank you for the information.

Confirmed.

What I think it is, is that even though you've opened Find (Ctrl+F), even though "default" is still the search that displays in the Find dialog, it is not yet been effected - which you can do by hitting <CR> or F3 (or Shift+F3, or by toggling the Highlight option in the Find dialog).

And I think it does this ? because it has to do with focus? Your search happens to be there, you are (focused) "in" the Find dialog box, & even though you've have the same search term listed, that is all that has happened. You haven't actually told it to "GO", to do anything at that point. And the <CR>, F3... is the trigger that tells it to go do something, like to highlight the Find term.

FAYT, Quick Find (whatever it is called) does not seem to loose the highlight (in doing above).
(Though there are some scenarios, which I've not really concerned myself with, where it does loose highlight, where you need to F3 to get it back.)

(Your "Default" was at first confusing, because not everyone will have an "everything.*default.*ini" to be found.)
