Very minor issue.
So I finally got myself to indexing at least my music folder for music stuff so I can search for artist names and such instead of within foobar2000.
I put in all of the properties relating to audio and video files and some extra.
In MPC-HC when reading a video file, there is a "LongDescription" text that at least from yt-dlp contains the description of the video page from YouTube.
In EBV, this seems to be the "QuickTime Metadata" property.
It contains odd symbols not a part of the description and it also duplicates everything.
MPC-HC reads this correctly, wondering if there is something I can do to fix it for EBV?
Here is a lazy crop of the difference.

Now that I look at it, it seems the description is also under the Description section and contains the same data.
I do like that EBV makes line breaks unlike MPC. If there is a fix hopefully that doesn't cause it to use one line like MPC, but MPC does that for all properties and probably isn't the fault of any property.
EBV property Description, Group Description and every single Windows-version of Description are empty. Maybe there is a Windows one, but since it's in Swedish for me maybe I don't know the translation.
I did look up quicktime tags and EBV seems to read the data in a more general manner which is why it says ldes instead of reading it as ldes. It being the long description tag. Because there are also other tags in there like cmt for comments. I admit I didn't bother reading it beyond comparing after seeing it in EBV first. I presume this means for EBV to read these properly, you have to code it in. I imagine searching the property works just fine, it's just the presentation. At least with "quicktime-metadata:"Badly Translated Ancient History"" it finds this file.
It reads like other properties contain almost all of what the quicktime metadata does. I think it might only be the description from YouTube/others that is exclusive to this property. Again unless there is a Windows system one and I don't know the Swedish version..Or the English one.

Re: Quicktime description is duplicated and contains odd symbols?
Thank you for your post Herkules97,
The QuickTime Metadata shows all QuickTime tags and values.
The QuickTime desc tag is not an official tag.
However, it is widely used by ExifTool, so I will add support for pulling the QuickTime desc tag with the Description property in the next update.

These odd symbols are the real official tag names, eg: ©cmt == commentIt contains odd symbols not a part of the description and it also duplicates everything.

Everything 1.5.0.1405a will now pull the QuickTime desc tag for the main Description property.

Am I missing something then? Do I have to ctrl+F5 existing entries? If it pulls from the quicktime tag it would be from the index I imagine.void wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 5:51 am Everything 1.5.0.1405a will now pull the QuickTime desc tag for the main Description property.
I copied the quicktime data to Windows Notepad to showcase the difference

Is it that you set it to count @desc as the description but because this seems to ; from an existing @entry it doesn't see it?
Re: [Solved] Quicktime description is duplicated and contains odd symbols?
Yes you will have to update these items with Ctrl + F5.
After selecting these files and hitting Ctrl + F5, is the Quicktime desc tag shown in the Description column?

I have around 300K files left to index.
It's been..at least 10 days and it's probably going to be 20 days more before it's done.
Because when I play video games, the indexing helps cause OBSS lag so I've begun shutting it off. I imagine most recordings from 02-09 to 02-20 have massive stutters in them..Oh well.
I already did ctrl+F5 for the files so I am guessing it's now at the back of the queue.
Is there a way to push them forward in the queue?
I could just make an empty version and add the path to the specific file too, but I'd rather have the queue push method if it's possible. I take it there isn't a list somewhere where I can say "Move to the top" for these files.
Re: [Solved] Quicktime description is duplicated and contains odd symbols?
Ctrl + F5 puts the file at the start of the queue.

Re: [Solved] Quicktime description is duplicated and contains odd symbols?
I restarted the instance thinking maybe that's necessary but that didn't seem to have done much.
Then I pressed ctrl+F5 a few times in case it wasn't triggering..Nothing happened.
Then while writing my previous version of this reply, I alt-tab yet again and suddenly it is doing them and the description section is filling up.
I don't think it adds them to the top of the queue, but near the top because it does not do them right away. Hell for the 3 "Ancient History" files it has only done 2. Maybe the last one is somewhere else in the queue. At least it might eventually get done. But the instance might be done in a month or two so I guess I can ask then if something has gone wrong instead of now.
Can I search for the description section of quicktime metadata to know which files to ctrl+F5? Or do I just have to do all of them?
Quick-time metadata files are currently at 175K which isn't that much..But not all of them contains full data. Some only have a year tag like "©day=2017"
At least it's not the full instance of 2 million files
Like quicktime-metadata-desc:, Idk.
Re: [Solved] Quicktime description is duplicated and contains odd symbols?
To clarify, Ctrl + F5 will add to the end of the priority queue.
So maybe there was already something in front of it.
You could skip files with a description already.
Please try the following search:
This will give you a list of items with a quicktime desc.

You'll have to refresh every item with a quicktime desc value. Can I search for the description section of quicktime metadata to know which files to ctrl+F5? Or do I just have to do all of them?

Re: [Solved] Quicktime description is duplicated and contains odd symbols?
I haven't added anything there myself, I just added folders on 02-09 for it to index and the 3 ancient history files are the first I've ctrl+F5.void wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 8:13 am To clarify, Ctrl + F5 will add to the end of the priority queue.

But that can wait until it's done, which will probably be in a month..Or less, I will increase the threads so it gets done faster as the CPU doesn't do much during desktop stuff. I put it on 1 thread, 8% CPU usage, but then I found out OBSS can lag even if the games don't..So may as well put it back to 32%.
Thank you, yes that seems to work. It's only 15K files with desc= and ldes= it seems. Far less than 175K hehe.
Doing it in reverse does pop up 160K files. So almost none of them has descriptions.
