Long time power user - probably around 3 years of daily use of 1.4 and then 1.5a etc and different versions. *edit just saw my account was created in 2018 good lord time flies rip*
I've lost track of which version started causing this problem, but this issue has entirely broken windows folder loading, and, loading of files etc within Everything.
starting Everything - Not Responding - wait or close.
leaving it open, or, leaving Everything running, attempting to open ANY folders ANYWHERE on the system result in the ....working.... or whatever loading message. after a VERY long time - more than 30 minutes - Everything and local windows folders eventually load.
If I terminate the Everything app and background processes, INSTANTLY, ALL FOLDERS AND FILES load perfectly within windows etc.
I sadly can't keep using this software since it continues to eventually result in this environment. This is across multiple systems running windows 11. I'm not sure if its other configuration settings conflicting but i dont know how to fix this without just not running Everything. Ive tried downgrading to previous 1.5a versions but the same exact issue keeps coming back.
Long time user - 1.5a has broken
Re: Long time user - 1.5a has broken
Thank you for your post nevertoomanybackups,
One thing that can cause a slow system is reading a NTFS volume directly after opening millions of files.
The files get cached and synchronizing a raw read from an NTFS volume can take a few seconds. (not 30 minutes)
Have you opened millions of files before opening Everything?
Is something spamming your file system with changes?
-Please check under Everything -> Index -> Index Journal.
Please send a mini crash dumpstarting Everything - Not Responding - wait or close.
- Wait for Everything to show Not Responding.
- Download Process Explorer from Microsoft:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer - In Process Explorer, select Everything.exe (If there is two, select the one using the most memory)
- Right click Everything.exe and under Create Dump, select Create Mini Dump.
- Choose a filename and click Save.
- Please upload this file in an bug report.

Re: Long time user - 1.5a has broken
super appreciate your instant response.
i uninstalled and went back to 1.4
i will go ahead and install 1.5a again - the latest version - and when this happens again, i will go ahead and follow your steps to send in the mini crash dump.
thank you for continuing to create the absolute best search software.

If the issue doesn't occur with Everything 1.4, could you please send your Help -> Troubleshooting information from Everything 1.5.

I too start experiencing problems in January 2026. I installed Everything-1.4.1.1026.x64-Setup.exe and everything is working like magic again.
