New Tab View Settings
New Tab View Settings
I want to know what settings determine the View (Thumbnails or Details) for the new tab which is opened by Ctrl + T.
I set the View to Details under General -> Home -> View, but I found that sometimes the new tab follows this setting, while other times it doesn't and instead follows the view of the current tab (Thumbnails or Details).
Here are some related settings.

Re: New Tab View Settings
New tabs should be using your Tools -> Options -> Home settings.
Duplicate tab will inherit the current tab.
You can override these settings with the advanced new_tab_command_line setting:

Re: New Tab View Settings
For instance, if I search for "abcd", the new tab will open in Details view; However, when I search for "abcde", the new tab will display in Thumbnails view.
Edit: Furthermore, if I search "a" or "ab" or "abc" or "abcd" in current tab, new tab results will show in in Details view; when I search for "abcde" or "abcdef" or "abcdefg" or "abcdefgh" ..., the new tab will show in Thumbnails view.
I always set Tools -> Options -> Home -> View to Details.

Re: New Tab View Settings
I also encountered this issue on my another Windows 10 computer, but it seems to occur without a consistent pattern.
On this computer, I was also unable to reproduce "abcd" "abcde" case, in this case, new tab consistently follows the Tools -> Options -> Home -> View setting. However, in other scenarios, the issue can still be reproduced on this computer.
For instance, if I search for "stds", the new tab will display in Details view; However, when I search for "stdsa", the new tab will display in Thumbnails view.

Any progress? This issue keeps happening on my computer. I have set new_tab_command_line to: -details。void wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2025 10:43 pm Thank you for the gif.

Additionally, I noticed that shrinking window would cause new tab to display in detail view.

Does the issue persist if you disable icon shell extensions:
- In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Advanced tab on the left.
- To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
icon - Select: icon_shell_extensions
- Set the value to: false
- Click OK.

Re: New Tab View Settings
Thank you for the troubleshooting information.
The issue is caused by creating the scrollbar, which sends a style change with a bad LVS_REPORT style change.
I will have a fix in the next alpha update.

Thanks for your work. Is this issue triggered by some specific setting? Is there any temporary workaround to resolve this issue at the moment?void wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 7:14 am Thank you for the troubleshooting information.

Re: New Tab View Settings
Hello,
I’m experiencing the same issue where Everything does not correctly apply my column settings.
As shown in the screenshot, even the settings defined in the INI file are not respected — columns that are not selected there are still added. Conversely, when I configure the columns via the GUI, those changes are not written back to the INI file.
I only use Everything privately, so this is not a major issue, but it is a bit inconvenient to repeatedly remove columns I don’t need. This post is therefore just for informational purposes.
Kind regards

Hi,
I looked at the picture.
The closing bracket ] is missing here.

Re: New Tab View Settings
I suspect that it has something to do with the columns that are present in your “Alle Dateien” filter.Native2904 wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 5:19 pm I’m experiencing the same issue where Everything does not correctly apply my column settings.

Everything still sets the scrollbar information, which triggers the issue.I use dark theme, It does not work for me.
Ignore my previous post.
I will have a fix soon.
The columns are applied as expected here.I’m experiencing the same issue where Everything does not correctly apply my column settings.
Tuska has the right idea with the active filter.

Re: New Tab View Settings
What do I need to do to save the settings in the INI file? As you can see in the screenshot:
https://imgur.com/1Z6KAQz
all settings are synchronised, but the INI file contains completely different values.
I have checked whether there is another INI file on the system, but this is not the case.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: New Tab View Settings
- Column widths cannot be saved in a filter.
- Columns and column widths can be saved in a bookmark, e.g. "Alle Dateien":
Search > Custom > /columns [{“name”:‘Name’,“width”:208},...
Filter > Alle Dateien
Keyboard shortcut: your choice, e.g. ALT+Y
- To me, it looks as if you renamed the “Everything” filter to “Alle Dateien” and wanted to create a default view.
I have created a default view (example) here.- Bookmark 2: Default view - Standard view (ALT+Y) --> /columns [{" ...
==> Create bookmark “Alle Dateien” [or "Standardansicht"]
- Default view - Standard view -> Everything Options - Advanced: new_tab_command_line | new_window_command_line
==> Execute this instruction.
- Default view - Standard view -> Everything Options - Home
==> DONE with your “Alle Dateien” filter in Home/Suchstandards!
- Bookmark 2: Default view - Standard view (ALT+Y) --> /columns [{" ...
- From this point on, you should be able to change column widths, add columns, remove columns, etc. AND
RESTORE YOUR DEFAULT VIEW after calling up the “Alle Dateien” bookmark, e.g. also via the shortcut [ALT+Y].

Re: New Tab View Settings
Thank you very much, Tuska.
You’re right — over time I’ve picked up a few things from the forum, and some mistakes probably crept in along the way. I hadn’t noticed this until now; it was only through articles like the one you linked that I realized I needed to adjust my Everything setup accordingly.
It seems I mixed a few things up. I’ll go through it over the weekend and straighten things out.

Hello Tuska,
thanks to your instructions I managed to get it working.
It feels like I couldn’t see the wood for the trees.
My mistake was that “Filter” + “Bookmark” and "new_window_command_line" and "new_tab_command" did not contain the same values.
Now that everything is in sync, it works exactly as it should.
