Everything Not Indexing All Folders and Files

Post by markCDN »

I am using an external SSD drive, 4TB in size.
The Everything App did not index all folders and files.
It appears it indexed about 70-75% of the drive contents.

The settings are default, switched to the installed version after the portable version was having the same problem.

When doing a search, the reason why some files do not show in the results is because the App has not indexed everything, and does not see everything.

I tried all the suggestions I can find here in this forum to fix the issue, including force rebuild a new indexing and removing "run as administratror" setting.

There are no exclude settings used, and enable exclude list is unchecked.

When typing in a folder name that is on the drive into the top search bar, it does not show. It only shows if that folder has already been indexed. Else when it does not show as indexed, the search fails (or does not see the folder or file).

How is this fixed?

What is the file system for your external drive? (eg: NTFS or exFAT)

When typing in a folder name that is on the drive into the top search bar, it does not show.
Please make sure you escape any spaces with double quotes.

eg:
"C:\Program Files"

The file system for my external SSD drive is NTFS.
As for typing in the folder name, it was a single name with no spaces, but thanks for that tip.

Everything doesn't follow folder junctions on NTFS volumes.

The MFT can get out of sync with your folder listings.

Please check your drive for errors:
  • Please backup anything important on your drive before checking it for errors.
  • In Windows Explorer, right click your drive and click Properties.
  • Click the Tools tab.
  • Click Check now...
  • Click Start
  • If prompted to schedule a scan on the next restart, click Yes.

Does the issue persist?
