Please try running Everything as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (from the File menu, click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.
Does the issue persist?

yes, it works persistently, but everything 1.5 1372a works well when WindowsCodecs.dll is present

For reference, https://github.com/Chaoses-Ib/IbEverythingExt.

It would seem the second shot is the expected look.
And if when you initially open Everything it does not look like that, then that ought to be taken up with IbEverythingExt, I'd think.

WindowsCodecs.dll.
Some recent hits point to malware. So in that respect, in what directory is WindowsCodecs.dll located, & is your Windows up to date with updates?
