How to use Everything as default in all Open / Save Dialogs?

Post by troubled »

I need it specifically for fast filtering capabilities.

For example, when I want to upload a bunch of txt files in the browser across many different subfolders, using the original file explorer will take forever to give me all the filtered txt files. I still need to launch everything separately to filter them.

Is there a way I can just use Everything to replace these dialogs?

JumpToFolder is not seamless as I still need to launch a separate app instead of Everything directly.

On a separate note, How is Listary built differently from Everything? I noticed it doesn't even need much time to build its index and I can immediately search for anything without pausing.

NotNull's QuickSwitch

Listary is probably searching the system index or Everything index.

I just tested Quickswitch. In MS Word, I tried the open dialog, but it's still showing the native dialog and searching is still super slow.

Quickswitch might not work if Everything is running as administrator.

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (from the File menu, click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

What version of Everything are you using?
-If you are using Everything 1.5, please try disabling the alpha instance:
  • In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Advanced tab on the left.
  • To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
    alpha
  • Select: alpha_instance
  • Set the value to: false
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (File -> Exit)
  • Restart Everything

-If you are using Everything 1.5, please try making a copy of your C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything.exe to C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\Everything64.exe
