In Everything 1.5 on Windows 11, drag-and-drop onto taskbar icons doesn’t work. This affects all file types and extensions, including MP3s, documents, and application shortcuts. The issue has persisted for a long time.

Are you running Everything "as Administrator"?
If so, maybe that is playing in.
If so, open a separate Instance, running NOT as Admin, & see if d&d works there.

Yes, I run as Administrator and I will always run as Administrator! I don’t want any services! I’ve had heavy background writing on my SSD for many years! (if not, Runs as Administrator and disable various other Configs)
So, what ingenious way is there to drag and drop as Administrator?

1. In Everyhting as ADMIN drag your file/folder
2. ALT+TAB
3. Drop file/folder e.g. to Administrator^ - Total Commander (x64) 11.56

Re: Everything 1.5 - Drag-and-drop doesn't work
It doesn’t work. The 'lock' red icon still appears in every application, even in Total Commander as Admin.
Besides, drag-and-drop should work in other applications that support it, like 'Mixed In Key 11' or any other, even browsers, where files can also be dropped!
It should simply allow dragging to the icon, not just when two windows are resized and side by side, then it works.

Here it works like this:
1. Drag a .TXT file from the “Everything 1.5.0.1399a (x64) - [Administrator]” search results window to the taskbar area
by pressing the left mouse button and holding it down. This symbol will appear:
2. Now press ALT+TAB and switch to an application that was also started as ADMIN, e.g., Administrator^ - Total Commander (x64) 11.56
3. Move the cursor into the folder D:\TEMP, for example, and an arrow with a ‘+’ symbol will appear
and then release the left mouse button -> the query “Copy 1 file(s)/directory(ies) to D:\TEMP?” will appear.
Confirm this query by clicking on the “Yes” button.
4. The .TXT file has been copied to the D:\TEMP folder.

When I say "drag and drop" I mean "drag and drop" to icons on the taskbar, not ALT+TAB!

Yes, I realize that.Debugger wrote: Fri Sep 26, 2025 7:03 am When I say "drag and drop" I mean "drag and drop" to icons on the taskbar, not ALT+TAB!
ALT+TAB was just meant to be an alternative suggestion.
I don't see this topic as a bug, and for me, the matter is closed.
Perhaps you could find out for sure by doing a Google search...

Re: Everything 1.5 - Drag-and-drop doesn't work
Well, isn't that going to be a mechanism of Windows itself, blocking caused by Windows. It should simply allow dragging to the icon
Maybe there is a work-around (Windows setting) that you can implement to allow d&d in such circumstances?
UAC, or lack thereof, may also be playing in.
Do you have UAC enabled?
Disable it if so, or enable it if not, & see if that makes any difference?

Yes, I have UAC enabled, I won't disable UAC, these are important settings that I can't change, anyone who wants to always have a secure computer will understand this...
