Post by mqlbeyond »

All computer login accounts have normal user privileges.

Preliminary, the administrator installed "Everything" on each computer, checking the "Install Everything service" option during installation.

Users were able to use the system normally for a period of time, perhaps about a month, but then suddenly, they were prompted to enter their administrator account and password every time they opened the system. Why? Was there an automatic background update?

Note: The company has many computers, and all other computers have the same setup and no issues. This is the only computer experiencing this issue. (The system installation environment settings and system disk ISO file for this computer are identical to those for the other computers.)
The Everything Service was likely uninstalled.

Windows Update will sometimes remove the Everything Service.

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (from the File menu, click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.
Everything

  • 退出 Everything(点击菜单栏的“文件”,然后选择“退出”)。

All the above items have been confirmed OK, but the problem still exists. Currently, the only option is to add admin privileges to the account, but this is not a long-term solution.
There was no automatic background update.

Please check the following:

Please make sure Everything is running as a standard user:
  • Right click your Everything.exe or a shortcut to Everything
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the Compatibility tab.
  • Uncheck Run this program as an administrator.
  • Click OK.

Was Tools -> Options -> General -> Everything Service square checked?

Does the issue persist?
