ES making new network locations when closed

Post by CliffyBoy »

Hi,

I started using Expandrive to create network drives rather than Windows due to stability. Now everytime the computer is shut down, ES is making the existing shares go offline and creating new duplicate shares. I'm only able to remove the offline share but unable to delete the newly created shares. Is there a way to stop ES from making new unnecessary shares?

ES Version 1.5.0.1396a (x64)
Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900HK (2.50 GHz)
Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.7 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 24H2
Installed on 5/29/2025
OS build 26100.4946
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.197.0

Strange that a new share is being created each time.
This is done by the system, not Everything.

Please try folder indexing instead of network drives:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Network drives tab on the left.
  • For each (Offline) network drive:
    • Click Remove.
  • For each network drive:
    • Uncheck Include in database.
  • Click the Folders tab on the left.
  • Click Add...
  • Select a mapped network drive and click OK.
    (repeat for additional network drives.)
  • Click OK.

I wasnt able to use your suggestion to uncheck include in database because the newly created drives were never included. The screenshot does indicate this. After setting all the drives up in Folder, ES kept getting stuck scanning the drives which is not normal. Ultimately, I just totally deleted all the network drives and removed Expandrive. It is the most stable app I've found for the network links but since this new version isnt working with ES I just cant use it. Thanks anyway.

Only the (Offline) drives need to be removed.
Otherwise you'll end up with duplicated and stale indexes.

After setting all the drives up in Folder, ES kept getting stuck scanning the drives which is not normal.
Does the UI hang?
Can you hover over the indexing progress bar?
-If so, the current folder being indexed should be shown.
Is Everything stuck on a particular folder?

I'm happy to help debug the issue.
Please feel free to send a debug log:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, check Verbose.
  • From the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, check Console.
---This will show a debug console.
  • Setup Expandrive.
  • Wait for Everything to get stuck.
  • Right click the debug console window caption
  • Under Edit, click Select All.
  • Right click the selected text in the debug console to copy it to the clipboard.
  • Please upload the debug output in a bug report

Thanks for replying again. Even if I continued using Expandrive, there are other issue with it unrelated to making it work with ES. I contacted the company and their reply was
-they offer zero support of any kind for the free version
-the free version will not get any fixes anyway.

I moved on to using RaiDrive which has many more features and they fully support all versions of their software.
