I would feel more comfortable if the lower-left corner of the window (status bar) included the number of files whose content is being searched, in my case "Querying … Found 22 items out of 4,301 files" or similar.
I need to search 4,301 files "ext:pdf dm:>02/02/2001" for a string "snapshot", so I use "ext:pdf dm:>02/02/2001 content:snapshot"
Some 100 items are found after a search that takes about 30 minutes.
The snapshot was taken after 22 items had been found; the "found" items arrive in clumps, as the "User Guide" examples show.
The bottom right corner of the screen shows a progress bar.
Despite the "clumping", a numeric count makes sense since I can remember only that I had the PDF file created after I moved back to Etobicoke; that is, the creation took place sometime after the year 2001. I suspect that statistically the PDF file will be somewhere in a linear range.
This is only a nice-to-have option that will cater to people making lengthy searches.
Thanks, Chris

Re: Suggestion for enhanced statistics in Searching
I will consider showing Querying x of y... in the status bar and also in the progress bar tooltip.
Thank you for the suggestion.
