Hi,
I'm running Everything 1.5.0.1396a (x64) on Windows 10, and often (~50% of the time - so between 2 and 50? times a day), when returning to my Desktop, there's a generic (Windows) "Everything has stopped responding" dialog - which I can use to force terminate, or 'Wait' for the program to respond.
I usually just ignore it, or sometimes click 'Wait' - I've never found Everything to not be responding at any stage, so I can't notice any actual issue beyond a mild annoyance.
I run the same version of Everything (and Win10) on two separate PCs here and there is no issue, and I believe I always use the same settings. The only difference I can think of on the problematic PC is that I've added my Google Drive under FAT indexing (though I haven't used Google Drive in months - in fact I forgot I even added it to Everything...)
Just wondering the best way to debug this? (It's particularly annoying because I can't ever re-create it when I try to; but it almost always happens otherwise)
Thanks

Please send your Everything -> Help -> Troubleshooting information.
Put Everything in debug mode and check debug logs:
When Everything is not responding, please capture a mini crash dump:
Put Everything in debug mode and check debug logs:
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, click Start Debug Logging.
- Wait for Everything to hang.
- Wait for Everything to recover.
- From the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, click Stop Debug Logging.
--This will open your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt in Notepad. - Please upload this log in a bug report and I can take a look at the issue.
When Everything is not responding, please capture a mini crash dump:
- Download Process Explorer from Microsoft:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer - Launch Process Explorer.
- Wait for Everything to hang.
- In Process Explorer, select Everything.exe (If there is two, select the one using the most memory)
- Right click Everything.exe and under Create Dump, select Create Mini Dump.
- Choose a filename and click Save.
- Please upload this file in a bug report
Re: occasional 'Not Responding' GUI on desktop only
The issue remains - I've had it ~10 times today already - but as soon as I tried to actually troubleshoot it, I can't reproduce it!
I must be causing it in a certain way via muscle memory... so it may be hard to track down!
Until I can catch it properly, I do have an Everything.dmp file I made semi-recently, but I'm not 100% sure if it's related to this problem or not, honestly. I'll submit it as a bug report in case it's of any use. Apologies if it turns out to be irrelevant
Thanks!

Re: occasional 'Not Responding' GUI on desktop only
Thank you for the the mini crash dump.
The dump shows Everything has crashed while performing a reindex and copying property value data.
What properties are you indexing? (Tools -> Options -> Properties)
Please send your Everything -> Help -> Troubleshooting information.

Re: occasional 'Not Responding' GUI on desktop only
Apologies for the delay - since my last post I'd figured out that clicking ANYWHERE on my screen would make the error GUI disappear, so grabbing a dump whilst the error was present was nearly impossible.
I'm ~90% sure I was able to make a .dmp at a suitable point. I'll submit it along with the Troubleshooting Information as requested.

Re: occasional 'Not Responding' GUI on desktop only
Thanks for the mini crash dump and information.
The dump doesn't contain any useful information.
It just shows Everything running normally and waiting for the next UI message.
> win32u.dll!NtUserWaitMessage() Unknown Non-user code. Symbols loaded.
> Everything64.exe!main_everything_main() C Non-user code. Symbols loaded.
> Everything64.exe!__tmainCRTStartup() Line 324 C Symbols loaded.
Was the GUI unresponsive for you?
The issue is most likely caused by content indexing.
Please try changing your Tools -> Options -> Content -> Include only files
to:
( I removed *.en.vtt and *.info.json )
I wonder if these two extensions caused some weird data overlap.
They are already included as *.vtt and *.json
iFilters hate running as administrator.
Please try disabling ifilters:
In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the Advanced tab on the left.
To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
ifilter
Select content_ifilter
Set the value to: false
Click OK.
I assume all these extensions are text/plain. (except xlsx)
Please add them to text_plain_extensions list:
In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the Advanced tab on the left.
To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
text plain
Select text_plain_extensions
Set the value to:
(added ;txt;srt;vtt;csv;milk;fx2;fx;dat;json to the end)
Click OK.
This will be required to read content for extensions like *.dat when disabling iFilters.
Everything will use a built-in text/plain content handler for text_plain_extensions.
xlsx will not work without iFilters.
Does this help with stability?

Re: occasional 'Not Responding' GUI on desktop only
Thanks for the comprehensive reply.
Admittedly I don't remember why I chose to run as administrator, but I do recall having a reason at the time. Out of curiosity, can I confirm that running Everything as a Standard User would be just as effective in this case as modifying the IFilters in this case?
I've modified the filetypes for content indexing and will implement the other suggestions shortly.
(naturally, the issue has not occurred since I saw your reply!)

Yes.Out of curiosity, can I confirm that running Everything as a Standard User would be just as effective in this case as modifying the IFilters in this case?
If the issue persists, please try disabling iFilters to confirm the issue is related to iFilters.
Re: occasional 'Not Responding' GUI on desktop only
I don't believe I've had the issue for the last few days, and the only thing I changed so far was removing the redundant entries for 'Include only files' under Content Scanning, to match your suggestion. Certainly not something I'd have ever considered!
Thanks
Thanks
Re: occasional 'Not Responding' GUI on desktop only
Everything 1.5.0.1400a fixes a couple issues causing database corruption:
1) Using a index property filter containing two or more extensions (eg: *.en.vtt )
2) Using a special character in the extension (eg: *.dv-avi )
