Deselect group with ctrl+click and then ctrl+shift+click
Deselect group with ctrl+click and then ctrl+shift+click
I believe this is a bug, tried looking through settings but found nothing.
When deselecting from a group of selected items, in explorer (or totalcmd) you can typically use ctrl+click to deselect one of that group and then ctrl+shift+click on another item, to deselect all items in between.
In everything it instead selects the item i just deselected and move the highlight to the one i clicked last. example of how explorer does it:

Re: Deselect group with ctrl+click and then ctrl+shift+click
Not confirmed.
Here it works the same in Explorer, Total Commander and Everything.
Ctrl-click just selects or deselects single items.
This is Windows standard.

Re: Deselect group with ctrl+click and then ctrl+shift+click
Are you doing ctrl+click to deselect the first in a group of selected items, and then ctrl+shift+click on an item further away? Should deselect those in between.

No, it should not.winston wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 3:22 pm Are you doing ctrl+click to deselect the first in a group of selected items, and then ctrl+shift+click on an item further away? Should deselect those in between.
The Windows standard for Ctrl-Click is to select / deselect single items.
What you want is done with Shift-Click
and this works in Explorer, Total Commander and Everything, of course.

Re: Deselect group with ctrl+click and then ctrl+shift+click
What are you claiming here, that what i did in the gif is impossible, or that it's because i have some changed setting in the OS? I tried it on a brand new virtual machine, works the same.
Ctrl+click selects deselects single items, click and shift+click selects multiple items, but look at the gif i provided, how do you accomplish that? By ctrl+click and then control+shift+click. That works in explorer, and totalcmd (if you use left click selection mode), but not in everything.

Ok, this doesn't work in Everything.winston wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 4:56 pm ctrl+click and then control+shift+click. That works in explorer, and totalcmd (if you use left click selection mode), but not in everything.
I will not miss it, never tried it.

Thanks! Another UI quirk.void wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 1:17 am I have put this on my Things to fix list.

If you right click an item in the bookmark menu let's say "video", and then change your mind, so you right click "audio", and then left click any option, let's say edit, it will edit "video", same issue for search filters.
However it works correctly from the bookmark sidebar. I noticed emeditor behaves the same way, but it feel unintuitive.

I will trial an alternative method for gathering the right clicked menu item in the next alpha update.

Everything 1.5.0.1397a fixes and issue with selecting a result range with Ctrl.
Everything 1.5.0.1397a will now show the context menu from the current mouse cursor position, instead of the selected menu item.
Does the issue persist with this version?

Both issues fixed! Super impressed by your work on this application. Many thanks.

Everything 1.5.0.1401a fixes the same Ctrl + select range issue with the folders sidebar.
