Can it have the old icon?

Hello,

I have just tried out the 1.5 Alpha Version of Everything, and I noticed that it has a new Logo.

The new Logo is more red and throws a shadow. Compare (left the old logo, right the new logo):



You probably wanted to improve it, but it does not achieve the desired effect. The shadow does not play well together with other icons, which do not have a shadow. And the red color is less friendly than the orange color in my opinion.

Therefore, I would like to ask you to bring back the old logo.

Where are you seeing the Everything icon?
It's odd to me that the old icon doesn't have any alpha blending. (it should)



Please try the voidtools-01-Everything-Orange.ico icon in the Everything Icon Pack.

To change the Everything system tray icon and search UI icon:
/support/everything/customizing/#icon

To change the Everything taskbar icon:
/support/everything/customizing/#taskbar_group_icon

To change a shortcut icon:

• Right click the Shortcut and click Properties.
• Click Change Icon....
• Click Browse....
• Select your custom Everything.ico and click OK.
• Click OK.
• Click OK.

The previous image was created with gimp and saving it as *.png without choosing "save colors from transparent pixels". This may be why the alpha blending got lost. I just put the specific icon layers on a blue layer.

Strangely, When I put an Icon from that Icon pack into

%APPDATA%\Everything\

, as you recommend, this seems to have no effect, even when I uninstall and reinstall. I still see this, using a green icon:

Thank you for the screenshots.

The Everything 1.5 icon border does appear dark on your blue background.
I will consider making the border slightly softer for the 16x16 icon.

Sorry to necro this thread, but after updating to version 1.5.1396a (x64), my pinned taskbar icon no longer works correctly. I previously had an "everything-1.5a.lnk" shortcut pinned to taskbar, and this shortcut has "everything_white_right.ico" set as the icon. For years, clicking this taskbar button would... launch it like an app, for lack of a better description. It would get the little colored bar underneath it to indicate that it has an active window. Now, however, clicking that button launches a *new* taskbar button for the window, and that new button uses the standard orange icon. (see image below)

The instructions in support/everything/customizing/#taskbar_group_icon appear to be for an older version of Windows and do not work. UPDATE: I MISREAD THE INSTRUCTIONS. THEY DO WORK. (I still do not know why my pinned shortcut no longer works the way it has for years, but at least I have a working solution now.) (Curiously, if I follow the instructions higher in this thread and create "%APPDATA%\Everything\everything-1.5a.ico," that DOES change the icon for the app's title bar and the system tray icon, but it does NOT change the icon on the taskbar (even after deleting/rebuilding iconcache.db).

Is there a known fix for this sort of issue?

1395/1396 now registers a relaunch command.

Please unpin and re-pin your Everything taskbar shortcut.

Thanks! Unpinning/repinning the shortcut was indeed the first thing I tried, but I guess I didn't mention that, sorry. I had read that thread about the relaunch command but didn't understand much of it. But I edited my original comment here to say that I did read the taskbar instructions again and got it to work.

A key point for future readers is that for the tray icon in

%APPDATA%\Everything\

just

Everything.ico

may not work. I had to include the version number, like

Everything-1.5a.ico

, as Mr. void pointed out.
