No context menu item to search a specific folder

Post by BobStr »

I just installed Everything on a Windows 11 computer. With all previous versions of Windows, for as long as I've been using Everything, I could right click on a folder, and the context menu that popped up gave me the option to search just that folder (including subfolders) with Everything. But in Windows 11 there's no menu item for Everything.

Is this a problem with Windows 11, or a change in Everything, or an indication of some malfunction? In short, is there a way to get back that context menu item?

Thanks.

To show the Search Everything folder context menu item:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Show Search Everything folder context menu item.
  • Click OK.

Well, that was embarrassing.

I misled myself by looking at the wrong "context menu" entry. Please see the attachment, showing that although I had looked in Options, after I'd clicked the General tab I continued down down the left side to Context Menu, instead of staying up at the top with General, and looking over to the right. Oh well.

Thank very much for the help, including responding so quickly.

I don't want to start a new topic.
I' m confused about an inconsistency with the context menu entry "Search Everything 1.5a...".
In v1393a when I right click a folder in Explorer without spaces in path Everything opens with no results displayed!
When I right click a folder with spaces in it's name or path, Everything opens with content of that folder displayed correctly.
The only difference is in the Everything search bar which include (or not) the search folder in double quotes:
Case1: C:\SomeFolderWithoutSpaces\AnotherFolder\Etc => empty result list;
Case2: "C:\Some Other Folder With Spaces\Another Folder\Etc" => correct result list.
I am doing something wrong?

Does the search work if you put quotes around C:\SomeFolderWithoutSpaces\AnotherFolder\Etc ?
-Maybe Everything is processing quotes differently for you..

Is anything shown in your status bar on the right?
-Check for REGEX, CASE, WHOLEWORDS

What is your active filter?
-Do you have an active filter rewriting your search?

Yes. If I put manually the quotes, folder content appears in result list.
Default filter active is "EVERYTHING", that means no filter.
I have OMIT in the status bar (I made a single filter, to exclude .lnk files). Even I remove it, same results.
Strange...

Thank you for your troubleshooting information.

Your settings are fine, I can match paths without quotes.

Have you changed your Everything filter search?
Please check under Search -> Organize Filters -> Select Everything -> Edit -> Search.

Does disabling Tools -> Options -> Search -> "Replace forward slashes with backslashes" help?

Does temporarily disabling Index -> "Enable Result Omissions" help?

Have you added a macro called c ?
-This may make searches for c: behave unexpectedly.
-Please check Search -> Organize filters -> Macro column.
-Please check Bookmarks -> Organize bookmarks -> Macro column.

I should change the macro to something else.
Thank you very much, void!
