rename_trim in the advanced renaming

Post by meteorquake »

Unless I've missed something
rename_trim_stem
rename_trim_stem_and_extension
don't seem to apply when renaming is done via the dialog, whether by using the pattern or by manually editing the lower pane names
I think this is a shortcoming; it may be this was meant to provide a route to override and insert peculiar spaces in but I think people will usually not want to accidentally insert spaces if they have these settings set, which can easily happen, especially when removing words from the lower names.
It seems to me this can be caught by having a setting that says what to do when the advanced rename violates these trim settings -
0 Silently apply the trim settings (default) -- I think there are few people who want to be putting such spaces in
1 Prompt whether to trim or not
2 Ignore problem

So with rename_trim_stem = 1 (true)

F2 on a spaced name, followed by <RETURN>
will remove the spaces. (Can't say I like that idea, & probably should switch the pref... anyhow.)

Shift+F2 on a spaced name, followed by <RETURN>
leaves the name unchanged (the spaces remain).

I think there are few people who want to be putting such spaces in
I'd like it - because I can ;-).

My thought on F2 vs. Shift+F2 is that with F2, these "spaces" are more visible then what you might be able to "see" when using Shift+F2 (in particular with multiple files of various before & after spaces & space lengths).

Everything 1.5.0.1392a will now use your rename_trim setting for the single file/folder rename dialog.
