Re: local ntfs volumes have same label
Thank you. That is exactly what I did and rebuild the index. But it still shows just the drive letter F: (without the new name) in the search results. How to make the new name of the drive show in the search window?
Re: local ntfs volumes have same label
Try the Everything 1.5 Alpha version.
The latest version is currently Everything 1.5.0.1391a.

Re: local ntfs volumes have same label
Thank you. Same thing. No name of drive in the path.
Re: local ntfs volumes have same label
The name of the path is correct(!) -> F:
It is about the name (label) of the drive F:
What is the name in Everything Options - 1.5.0.1391a (x64) > Indexes > NTFS ?
Please see also:
Menu "Tools" > Debug > Statistics >
The drive must be connected first (the status must NOT be “(Offline)”!)
and only then can you change the name (label) of the drive - as shown in my picture above.
I think you have already done this anyway...

As @tuska stated: when a volume has a volume label, that volume label will be shown in OPtions > NTFS.simlateverything wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 7:27 pm I indexed my external volumes (see attached). But how I distinguish them?
But the drive needs to be connected (temporary) for Everything to be able to pick up the volume label.
But I guess your main reason is that you want to know which D-drive your abc.txt is on when searching for abc?
If that is the case:
- Go to Menu => Tools => Options => Indexes => Properties
- Click the Add button
- In the left pane, select Volume
- In the right pane, select Volume Label
- OK, OK
Volume Label will be indexed (and therefor available even when drive is offline) for your external drives once they are (temporary) connected.
To show the volume label:
- right-click the header of the result list (for example "Name")
- Select Add Columns from the context menu
- In the left pane, select Volume
- In the right pane, select Volume Label
- OK
Note for othere people reading this:
Make sure Automatically remove offline volumes is UNckecked (under Menu => Tools => Options => Indexes => NTFS)

Thank you so much! Worked like a charm! This program is the best INDEXER ever!
