Bluescreen on Windows 11

Post by ehd »

Hi,

I have been using Everything for many years now (on Windows 10). Thank you for this awesome software!

I got a new machine with Windows 11 and installed Everything.

While searching the computer went down with a blue screen und I could reproduce it. Then I installed the new 1.5 alpha. It worked for some time, but right now it put me into a boot-loop and when autostarting Everything it rebooted again.

What could that cause?

Here are the entries of the event-manager:

At what point does it bluescreen?
On opening simply Everything, or do you need to actually perform a search or some other action?

when autostarting Everything
If you disable autostart, but instead start Everything manually, does it still bluescreen?

What version of 11?

Sorry to hear that!
A Bluescreen Of Death (BSOD) is quite uncommon these days and if it occurs, it is almost always related to hardware issues or driver issues.

If Everything is still the cause, I suspect a corrupt database. To fix:
- Completely exit Everything by right-clicking its systemtray icon => Exit
- Go to the location of the Everything database. Typically this would be %LOCALAPPDATA%\Everything
(You can paste this in Explorer's address bar)
- Delete the .db file (and the .tmp file, if it exists)
- Start Everything.

If that doesn't fix the issue, try one or more of the following:
- Unmount any non-standard volumes/disks
- Close all non-Microsoft system utilities that hook deep into the system
(to eliminate interference)
- Run MemTest
- Update video drivers
- Check for disk corruption

Thanks, I'll try that.

And with a basic install. Just local NVMe and HD.

I also included E:, K:, L:, M:, R; S: und U: before which are network-shares on a Synology. But Everything runs fine with a network drive on another machine....
Could that be the culprit?

Wouldn't be my first guess. That should work without issues. BSODs are even more unlikely in that case.

Good luck!

OK, thanks I installed it again. DB is around 129 Mb.

Will try with this basic install and let's see what happens.
