Monitor changes does not work for me in 1.5.0.1391a (x64)

when i filter files:
TODO xls
it finds 2 files.
Then i manually rename those files in Everything. I can see the new names in total commander but in Everything the names are still the same.

The new filenames are visible in Everything IMMEDIATELY!
(Tested multiple times).

Renaming a file in ‘Everything’ with a total path length of 306 characters
was also immediately displayed in ‘Everything’.

i just experienced something similar this afternoon

i had a bookmark search open in everything with 15 items, over in directory opus i was processing new files, moved them into place, and everything didn't see the 20some new file i moved. it was instant previously.

closed the window, ran the macro again. still not there.

ran a `/reindex` and then they showed up.

Mmh, maybe these "Advanced" settings will help?   Please see also What does "monitor changes" actually monitor?
Otherwise, I use these settings in Everything (image on the right).

Even with monitoring, not all Search queries (automatically) update the results.

A simple search

todo xls

should.

But something like

date-modified-dupe: folder:laptop2

will see a delete of a /laptop2/ directory, but will not see a newly created /laptop2/ directory - until you (manually) [View |] Refresh the Everything results.

What drive is this todo.xls on?
Local NTFS? Network? External USB? Cloud storage?

Please post a screenshot of the Monitor changes settings of that specific drive/folder.

When you say "filter files", are you meaning that you are "filtering" or simply changing the Search string?
So the search is changed from

TODO xls

to

TODO2 xls.bak

.
Or is there an actual filter in effect - other then the "Everything" filter.
Or, did the Search string remain the same 'TODO xls', but the renamed files still happen to be found by the original Search (as 'TODO2 xls.bak' would (assuming you're not using some filter to cause those file to not be seen by the search)?

Are TC/DO "interactively" interacting with Everything itself, or are they simply viewing the same directory that Everything has found the files in? As in, might TC/DO actually be interfering with Everything?

i put "TODO xls" to the search box, 2 files match. Then i rename (in Everything) one of the matching files TODO.xls -> TODO2.xls
The new name still matches the "TODO xls" so it should still be in the matchlist. Its still in the matchlist, but the name is still the same.

As a test, create a new -instance, open that new instance, make no changes, & perform your renames.
Are they updated as expected?

I am late for the game, but here I am looking for, and deleting duplicates in my folder T:\Media\Music\
Filter bar: "Everything"
Search: T:\Media\Music\ ext:mp3 dupe:size;sha256
Results: 254

Folder: In Win11 File Explorer T:\Media\Music shows as Properties: 20,665 files, 2,095 folders (22,760 total items)
The first two items in the Results are duplicates, and so I choose to delete the copy with the shorter path[1] , which will be the first element in the list shown above.
Then I tap the down-arrow key once to move to the first item of the second pair

The fourth pair of duplicates in the list show a shorter path in the second item.
Consequently when I delete one item of a pair and tap the down-arrow key once to move to the first item of the fourth pair, I can find myself deleting the item with the longer path.
Ouch!

Back in April ("When I Create an Index/Properties (SHA) ...") I contemplated creating an index based on Sha256 or Sha512 on my new super fast laptop.

Tapping the Refresh F5 function key will update the results screen in 90 seconds. Not bad for 20,665 files. I can read two more pages of a John Grisham novel while I wait.

(1) Have I understood SHA indexes? When I sit down to clean up a collection of 20,000 media files (or document files, or ...) that collection of files will be fairly static for the exercise. If a SHA index saves me 90 seconds between deletes I'd be happy.
(2) Is there a way to force a Refresh F5 function key to automatically follw the Delete key during this exercise?

[1] Later: by "shorter path" in my Music folder, this means "shorter in units of folder names". Of these two Full Paths

and

I would consider the first one to be a more detailed path, as it has the higher number of folder names, and is therefore a more detailed description of the file name

As an alternative, an option to highlight the one of a pair of duplicate files, specifically the one file that has the shorter path remaining after the leading (matching) part is removed.

In the example above the string "T:\Media\Music\Calm\Classical\Vocal\Opera\" is the sub-string common to both paths.
The remaining strings
"The Academy Plays Opera\"
and
"Sir Neville Marriner\The Academy Plays Opera\"
tell us that the second file has the longer, more detailed path.

To continue this idea, changing the font of the longest path to (say) red and all the other paths to (say) green; or bold and italic etc. would serve to indicate which block of one or more files can be deleted and which one file can be retained.

To continue this idea; the results page can be inspected by eye to confirm the identified files, then all duplicates could be deleted with a single keystroke "Del"
