Hello,
i searched the forum but could not find an answer to my question: Is there a way to prevent Everything to write the ini-file on exit?
I don't like the possibility to edit the ini-file to get access to the admin options. So i changed the user rights to read-only. Now every time the user closes the app, there is an error message - this doesn't look good.
Thanks for your help!
Security and ini-file
Re: Security and ini-file
It says, -config <filename>, but can <filename> also include a path?
Or is there some other switch to provide path?
If so, then might /dev/null or similar work?

Re: Security and ini-file
(I'm assuming you install this for your users in your company network)
If you followed the recommended installation steps:
- the program will be in %programfiles%\Everything
- the usersettings will be %appdata%\Everything
- the database will be %localappdata%\Everything
In that case, you will end up with 2 Everything ini-files: system settings are in the program folder and usersettings are in %appdata%.
The run as admin setting is stored in %programfiles%\Everything and therefor not editable by regular useraccounts.
In Everything 1.5 you can define GPOs to lockdown or pre-configure settings.
In case he above does notr describe your environment, please be (much) more specific as Everything has gazillion options to cater for almost any situation.

Re: Security and ini-file
Thank you for these advices - it was exactly what i need!
I wasn't aware neither of GPOs nor of the policy.ini file. As i installed the portable version i'll try the second variant.
