Hello everyone,
Thanking you in advance for your help.
I searched for an answer and it seems that there is a function to do searches in tabs, same as one opens different sites in different tabs in a web browser? Maybe that's why I get so many search results that don't seem to apply to what I'm searching for.
See here: https://postimg.cc/wRQhCd7B
As you can see, I am using the drop-down for the file type search on the right side. So on the left, I'll type the file name I'm looking for, and then if I wanted to search for videos only, I have to go to the right side of the screen to change the drop-down to Video... what I'd like to do, is type the filename, then press the TAB key and have the focus move over to the drop-down on the right so I could change the drop-down selection by using the keyboard, thus never having to lift my hands off the keyboard, and not having to reach for the mouse.
As Everything runs now, if I type the file name and then press the TAB key, the focus switches over to the search results, and then if I press TAB again, the focus changes back over to the filename box on the upper left... the focus never cycles over to the file type drop-down box on the right.
I wouldn't care really if the TAB key would first switch to the search results, and then over to the file type drop-down, I'd just like to be able to TAB over to the file type drop-down one way or the other via the use of the TAB key.
Is there any way to currently accomplish this?
Thank you.
TAB sequence/order
Re: TAB sequence/order
(Moved to the Everything 1.5 forum)
In Everything 1.5:
- Goto Menu => Tools => Options => Advanced
- In the right pane, type in Show settings containing: field
- Select filters_tab_stop
- Set its value to true
- OK
Now <TAB> cycles through search bar, Filters bar and result list.
Alternatively, press 'CTRL + [' or 'CTRL + ]' to cycle through the filters, while keeping the focus on the search bar.
In Everything 1.5:
- Goto Menu => Tools => Options => Advanced
- In the right pane, type
tab stop- Select filters_tab_stop
- Set its value to true
- OK
Now <TAB> cycles through search bar, Filters bar and result list.

Re: TAB sequence/order
Sorry, lots going on lately, had forgotten...
I tried versions 1.41 and 1.5a, and nowhere is there an Advanced setting to be found (well not in Tools > Options anyway. I checked the other menu sections, and there were Advanced sections, but those were not relevant to what we're attempting to achieve here, as far as I could determine.
Do I need to dload and installed the non-Alpha version of Everything 1.5? I doubt it, but if you're getting completely different settings with that version, perhaps I might have to try that.
What I get from Tools > Options is this: https://postimg.cc/SjGkLf3B
The Ctrl + [ option is functional, although I would rather Tab to the drop-down field. Who knows, after having the option to Tab over and comparing it in speed and practicality, maybe cycling through the filter options with Ctrl + [ will be preferred...
Thanking you for your help, can you give further clues as to where to find these elusive Advanced settings you were referring to?

Re: TAB sequence/order
Ok, nm... checked a few .ini files where the programs were installed (Everything 1.5a and Everything 1.4.1), .ini files were barren, but finally found the Tab_Stop you had mentioned in the Everything-1.5a.ini file located in the C:\Users\R**Home\AppData\Roaming\Everything folder.
From there I changed the filters_tab_stop=0 to a 1 and Presto!, it works as you said it would. Weirdly, I guess you have those settings linked somewhere/somehow in the program menus, but going to the .ini file is just as simple, I can work with that.
Happy camper here now, thank you!

Re: TAB sequence/order
I am using 1.5a, and I don't have that Advanced option. Strange.

Oh, 2021... maybe there are two 1.5a versions?
I'll try re-downloading Everything 1.5a.
Ah yes, this newer 1.5a version does have an Advanced section in the options *facepalm*
So happy to not have to reach for the mouse anymore when doing searches!
