SSMF2R for short
Sometimes when renaming files, I'm building the name "as I go", so I don't know what the name will be at the end - only parts of the name at various points during the rename (& during those times, I'm Alt+TAB away to garner those other parts of what the ending name will be).
Being able to "build" a name, using F2 (rather then Shift+F2, as the Shift+F2 features are not particularly needed, nor the advanced dialog), could be helpful.
F2 Rename opens "inline", as it should,
but sometimes you want something between an
inline F2 & a non-modal Shift F2,
a more "static" (inline) F2
as it is, with F2, if you Alt+TAB away,
changes are effected
maybe if you are in F2, and (then say) hit, Alt+F2,
would keep F2 in an "inline" mode,
but place F2 into "sticky" state,
such that you can Alt+TAB away,
& come back to it, where you were, where you left off,
make changes, Alt+TAB away, again,
come back, make more changes,
& then when done, then effect the changes
modal, just like F2
maybe even if it just remembers the last cursor position in the last <filename>
with option to "jump to" it (on next F2)
or hotkey to cause it to jump to it
With that, so long as you're working on the same filename, if it knew the last cursor position, & even though you had Alt+TAB away, & had effected the changes, you, on F2'ing the same filename, can then jump to that last position, quickly, so as to append data to where you had left off prior to the Alt+TAB.
as it is now, F2 F2 F2, selects name, .ext, full
alt &/or ctrl + F2 work the same, selecting name, .ext, full
so maybe if alt+F2 from onset, or F2 followed by alt+F2
caused cursor focus on last_cursor_position in filename...
